A few weeks ago, when Nintendo held their Wii U-focused Direct web stream, I commented that it would be nice to see Sony address the perceived issues faced by the Vita with similar vigour. Well, it looks like I might be about to get my wish – in part, at least.
Sony Japan is streaming a showcase via Ustream that will focus on the PlayStation Vita and what delights it has to offer us. Details are scarce and it all feels a little bit “last minute” but that’s not really surprising – we rarely get advanced warning of what Sony Japan is doing here in the UK and SCEE seems to have nothing planned.
Of course, the eyes of many PlayStation fans are already wandering towards New York and Wednesday night when we’re expecting big news about PlayStation’s next home console but with many of us expecting a nice close relationship with the PS4 and the Vita, perhaps this showcase is just to get a few things out in the public eye before the portable console’s new playmate steals all the limelight.
You can catch the stream below (or here) at 8AM UK time. We’ll try to glean any pertinent information and round it up for you later in the morning, after we’ve had our coffee.

IGN are reporting a price drop in Japan (resulting in the Vita costing less than 20,000 yen) but no word on whether or not this applies to any other territories.

Just watched it all. It was in Japanese but I got the jist of most of it.
Looks like a price cut for Vita in Japan.
A heap of new games announced for Vita (from memory), God Eater 2, FFX HD, Phatasy Star Online 2 and a bunch more I forget.
Limited edition Soul Sacrifice Vita in Red, and another silver one for another game I forget now.
There was a lot of talk about Plus and the Store, but it didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Japan is also getting a Torne app for Vita and a Manga Reader app for Vita.

Oh, I didn’t see that in the post above. Yeah, it’s been quite a while since they’ve announced that as well. I hope they will follow through with their promise this year. The Vita hasn’t been dusted off in almost half a year. It’s time we see some blockbusters for my little friend.

Im literally just waiting for an solid excuse to buy a Vita and Sony just don’t seem to be giving me one. What a shame. A discount is a good start but something that tells me Im not going to be waiting ages for decent games would be great!

If you don’t think there are any decent games for the vita now then the vita isn’t going to be for you. There are certainly decent games available
