First The Last Of Us Developer Diary – “Hush” – Looks At The Origins Of The Infected

As “The Last Of Us” is just a few months away, Sony are starting to delve deeper into the game for those eager to find out more. There’s going to be a series of five developer diaries, and we’ve got the first one for you right here.

In the video you’ll find out a little about the origins of the Infected, with Phillip Kovats talking about the game’s spooky audio and creative director Neil Druckmann namechecking – as we all know by now – that BBC documentary that kickstarted the whole project.

The developers re-iterate a few things we know: that the real evil is the fungus, not the people; that communication and location is done via the clicking sound you’ll have heard and how the infection spreads through the inhalation of spores.

The video’s fairly spoiler free – there’s some lingering location shots and lots of concept art in among a few snippets of gameplay, so don’t worry too much if you’re wanting to stay free of anything story-based. Expect more in the series soon.

TheSixthAxis played the latest build of the game recently and liked what we saw – find out what we thought of it in detail by clicking here.

  1. I think Sony and Naughty Dog have learned a lesson from Uncharted 3. It was sort of anticlimactic to show so much of the game before release. i like this approach a lot better, showing only bits and pieces and leaving the discovery for the actual game. i hope they keep it like that.

    • Yeah, all the pre release footage kind of spoiled most of the great set pieces in UC3. I think they are doing a great job promoting TLoU while still keeping things secret.

  2. Cool, will the site be posting the rest of the developer vids?

  3. Nice post, great info in the video.

  4. Any news on if there is going to be a Last of Us PS3 console (like the recent GOW:A silver one?).
Was talking with the other half last night and one option we are considering is leaving the “next-gen” for a couple of years while the prices drop a bit and maybe getting a cheap ps3 in the meantime to catch up on all the games we’ve missed over the past couple of years.
Would personally really like the GOW:A one but I doubt I will be able to afford one by the 15th March and I doubt it will still be available come June time.
