Update:Â Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has said the info is fake.
Update 2: Translations of the magazine can be found online here and here. The magazine makes no reference to any “input lag” – that was a comment from the other source in the NeoGAF post and not the magazine. The magazine does, according to the translations, make reference to hit zones on Joel, and having to balance weapon use as a result.
Update 3: Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has since questioned the online translations of the interview included in the magazine.
Original Story: New, currently unverified information relating to The Last Of Us has surfaced overnight. It pertains to the game’s damage and health system, which sounds as gritty and deadly as we’d like it to be. The information apparently comes via a German magazine and a source familiar with the game (posted on GAF) which together outline just how careful players will need to be in the game.
Seemingly Joel has his own hit detection which is area specific. The example given is that if you’re shot in the left arm, you’ll need to use your right arm to hold the wound; you’ll also need to treat the wound (and get the bullet out) using items found on the ground and in cabinets dotted around the game otherwise the blood will continue to flow.
However, and here’s where it gets interesting: apparently if you get shot in the right arm, although you’ll obviously still need to treat it, afterwards you won’t be able to use a heavy weapon with it (like a shotgun) until the pain has fully subsided.
Likewise if you get shot in the leg, you won’t be able to run afterwards.
It seems that ammunition will be very rare, as we’ve seen from the various demos (and our own playthrough of the game recently) so blind-fire is out and close up melee combat is often the only way forward. The poster also mentions “heavy input lag” which we suspect is actually a weighty deadzone rather than anything to particularly worry about.
We’ll hopefully be able to see all this for ourselves when the demo lands at the end of May, just two weeks before the game is out.

I hope the “heavy input lag” is nothing to worry about because that’s the reason I stopped playing BF3. I can’t stand it.

I’m guessing it’ll be to add weight to attacks, something uncharted got right with the melee combat. The shooting not so much.
Input lag in bf3 is a complete myth. There’s nothing noticeable there at all.

Agreed, over 200 hours and never seen a thing.

For a methodical and slow paced 3rd person action-adventure I’m not even sure how lag could be a problem. Hopefully they’re referring to Joel’s own lumbering swings when injured. Makes perfect sense.

Very excited about this game. Wonder if the damage will become an annoyance, or be a fantastic addition.

Couldn’t be more excited about this game really (essentially I bought a PS3 again for it). Naughty Dog make some cracking games and I doubt this will be any different.

Sounds good, my biggest criticism with uncharted was the shootouts with the seemingly endless spawning bad guys, which I felt didn’t really mesh with the exploring part. The fact I suck at the shooty sections in no way influences my criticisms!

Neil Druckmann just said this wasn’t accurate on twitter. https://twitter.com/Neil_Druckmann/status/311873472877969408
Kind of a bummer. It sounded cool.

Finally a game that makes getting shot at actually feel dangerous.
