Battlefield 4’s Creative Director, Lars Gustavsson, has ruled out a Nintendo Wii U release for this year’s big first person shooter, which was revealed this morning.
“I think overall for me as creative director, number one is to deliver a really great game and experience,” said Gustavsson. “Sometimes, at least for us, it’s focus on what you do well and what you know well, and ensure that you deliver something good than trying a bit too much, stretching yourself too thin and risking it.”
The Wii U is currently struggling for third party support, and although the game has been confirmed for current generation consoles, the step up to the Wii U simply isn’t happening.
“I’d rather play it safe, deliver something really good and then look at the future and what could possibly be done,” Gustavsson added.
Gustavsson also said that neither the company nor the publisher are talking about next generation versions. “It’s more [because] here, right now, we want the focus to be on the single-player demo. When we built this engine, I think we already felt when we did Battlefield 3 with Frostbite 2 that it was kind of a power horse. It had enormous potential.”
“We talked then about next-generation technology on the current generation of platforms, and I still have that feeling that we’ve done so many tech improvements in that engine that are, in many ways, just making things look more beautiful for a cheaper cost.”
With no mention of a PS4 release for the game (although it’s wisely assumed that there will be one) could Battlefield 4 be part of Microsoft’s next generation reveal? It would certainly fit the bill, especially as this is one major game that hasn’t seen any focus on the official PlayStation blogs.
We’ll see soon enough – the next Xbox is expected to be announced next month.

Lack of PS4 confirmation surely means EA will talk about their nextgen plans at Microsoft’s Xbox event.
Hopefully there’s no timed exclusives tied to that, but if there are then hope it will be more like Bf3 on PS3, than CoD on 360 where the wait can feel quite a long time.
No Wii U version of a huge budget game is not surprising, the install base isn’t there to make it pay, reminds me of the early stages of the PS3’s life.

That’s my gut feeling too, the fact PS4 wasn’t mentioned once… wonder who’ll be netting the exclusive rights to COD? WiiU?
This exclusivity bollock is so lame we know everyone will be able to play it and enjoy it. 3rd parties should be neutral and exclusive 1st party games should sell the systems not a fat cheque. Sick of it

It will be on next Gen, no doubt and I’m sure they said something before saying its on the next gen consoles?
Either way, I wouldn’t be surprised Microsoft paying EA for some exclusive reveal for their launch, typical EA bending over and taking it, right where they deserve it…up the arse.

There was a rumour EA had locked Battlefield 4 for their presentation a while back.

Remember when EA showed up at the Nintendo press conference at E3 and showed Battlefield 3 on Wii U? Guess that relationship fell apart.
I bet you anything this isn’t happening because EA wants the game to be always online and Nintendo ain’t happy with that.

Trailer looks awesome.
Look forward to this on 50 inch plasma, Pulse headphones, PS4… Sounds like I’m gonna be the weak link!

I’m disappointed that they don’t show any support for the Wii U. This really seems like they want to show off at Microsoft’s event.

Well, I’ve gone and watched the footage and it does look gorgeous. This must be running on a high end PC. Hopefully the PS4 version (if it comes out) looks as good as this.
