While the PS4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts runs at 1080p, at least going by IGN’s video coverage which was broadcast at this resolution, it appears as though the Xbox One version may have a lower resolution of just 720p, which isn’t really ideal for next generation gaming.
This comes from a few reliable sources on NeoGAF, including famousmortimer, thuway and forum moderator bishoptl, so there’s no confirmation (though we should find that out quite soon) other than what they’re saying.
Cryptic as ever, cboat jumped in on the action, saying that this is known, and Titanfall will also have the lower 720p resolution.
It’s all still up in the air, but with Battlefield 4 currently at 720p on Xbox One, and with 1080p in extreme doubt for that game on either next generation platform, things aren’t looking very good for cross-generation titles.

I wonder how many 3rd party games will be gimped on PS4 due to Microsoft’s known policy of not allowing features on ‘competing platforms’ if it isn’t or can’t be done on their system?
DJ Judas
Nothing to worry about if Ghosts is running at 1080 on PS4 but 720 on XOne. Unless they’re claiming that their upscaling to 1080 is the same as native, and therefore it’s not an additional feature.
More than anything this is likely to be down to the constraints of developing for cross-generation, and perhaps adds some credence to Cerny’s claims of just how easy PS4 is to develop for.
NotSmartEnough
I just don’t see how devs can deliberately downplay a console’s capability: they still need to compete with first-party titles, it might be fine for PS4 and XB1 COD to both run at 720p, but it would suffer in comparison with titles like KZ-SF.
If Microsoft are going to have to pony up cash to get devs to release substandard PS4 titles, then why wouldn’t they just pay for full exclusivity?
bunimomike
They don’t want to lay out such a massive amount of money to make it exclusive and the lack of respect from the gaming world would be catastrophic to them.
If I’m not mistaken, Microsoft (or any other company) cannot pay off devs to have them bring out gimped versions for other platforms. That’s illegal, isn’t it?

Will be interesting to see if this is a sign of things to come. Sony were always keen on a 1080p standard for PS4 and I hope that up-kept
Matthijs
If true I would concider this rather disturbing. A title being pushed for a platform but not making it to next gen standards…
KeRaSh
The meltdown over at GAF was glorious.
Cboat dropping his truth facts directly onto Albert Penello…
JR.
I’m not sure what the general sales figures are but the PS4 is currently the No.1 bestseller on Amazon UK’s PC & video games chart and the Xbox One is No.27. If Sony dominate the console market next gen surely then can dictate whatever policies they want. 1080p standard for one.

Best the Xbone calls on the almighty God-like power of The Cloud if this happens to be true.
Severn2j
And just like other Gods, they may find “The Cloud” is mostly just smoke and mirrors.
Damigos
So, the gameplay videos from E3 which were from an “equivalent PC” turns out to not be so equivalent after all. Pity..
boeboe
Good to see Microsoft and the great Penello get a grilling. Deserve nothing less after the policies, I mean features, they tried to pull on us.
Boomshanks
Well, it’s clearly not the Xbox One thousand eighty p…
I’ll get my coat
gazzagb
Perhaps Xbox 720 would have been the better name after all then!
bunimomike
Watched this unfolding on NeoGAF and it’s amazing to see reactions to alleged facts. Also, interesting to see how quiet Microsoft has been over it all.
I love how people are demanding apologies even though nothing has been proved yet. *rolls eyes at hive-mind mentality on the internet*

Well, Microsofts silence may be quite telling in itself. An interesting semi-related article about the SimCity debacle might explain why:-
