Retailers Still Suffering From PlayStation 4 Shortages Across Europe

Despite launching eight months ago the PlayStation 4 is still selling out across Europe and Sony is struggling to meet demand.

“We haven’t yet caught up with the initial demand across Europe.” explained Fergal Gara, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK. “We are still dealing with the day one market.”

Sony say there are “close” to clearing the backlog but admit that they may have lost some sales due to the lack of stock.

“We are in a bit better shape in the UK, but there are countries that are still selling out every last unit that drops into the market on a weekly basis,” said Fergal. “A good example at the moment would be Germany who had phenomenal sales figures last week, but they just haven’t had enough stock so far.”

NeoGAF posters in Germany and the Netherlands have confirmed that there have been stock shortages, although the situation is improving.

  1. My local Cex always has a few.

  2. No shortages now in the UK though, you can buy the solus ps4 unit everywhere I’ve seen. Should hit 10 million before October with Destiny likely to trigger people to upgrade.

He mentions losing sales to the competition, maybe the ps4 coming back into stock has contributed to the significant decline in Xbox One sales?

    • Surely that was due to the announcement of a kinectless bundle? Or are sales of the X1 still slow?

      • Slow since February really, except the weeks around Titanfall and Watch dogs. It’s true that they have only been really bad (as in outsold by the ps3 and Wii U) the last couple of weeks.

  3. Lovely to see them just about treading water (or better) in the UK but they still need to sort our Europe, as mentioned. That’s quite the demand!

  4. The high demand is obviously great news for Sony, but I do wonder what is drawing all these people to pick up PS4s right now. By the sounds of things we are still a long way off getting a major title.

    • The same can be said for the Xbox One in fairness, only the WiiU with it’s recent Mario Kart 8 has a title thatcould be deemed as a current system seller, although with Sony both having I:SS and Watch_Dogs bundles, some people may have held off until those bundles came out, again in a similar vein to the XB1 Titanfall bundle

  5. Hardly surprising considering it’s the only next gen console worth owning ;)

  6. Well deserved. You do things right and you reap the rewards :)

  7. Go Sony!

All my friends wig were followers of the Green Team have jumped ship.

I look back and remember what PS3 was like in its first 12 months in comparison to the beast the machine is today.

I can’t wait to experience PS4 at its peak!

    Love being a playstationist :-)

    • I can remember people fearing the ps3 would do a dreamcast at one point.

      • Well, they look a bit silly now lol.

      • This early on Xbox one feels like this gen’s version of the PS3, wonder if it will end the same as last gen. No reason why it couldn’t I guess.

      • It’s not the same as PS3 vs 360. PS3 had bluray, free online and was arguably more powerful than 360 (though difficult for devs to work with initially). X1 doesn’t have any major advantages over the PS4. Only exclusives but PS4 has great exclusives too…

X1 will struggle more than PS3 did.

  8. Agreed, PS3 had a lot more to offer me than the 360 but that didn’t stop the 360 outselling the PS3 in it’s infant and middle years.
Again XB1 seems like it’s the lesser console but come 5> years time you just never know…someone goes back on everything they said, the other party removes backwards compatibility, other os, kinect doesn’t work out, move doesn’t work out, someone get’s hacked.
It all fades with time until the next big thing hit’s and everyone moves along with everyone else.
