Destiny PS3 To PS4 Upgrade Won’t Be Available Until Wednesday

If you cunningly bought the digital PS3 edition of Destiny for a free upgrade to the PS4 version with a £5 saving, then you won’t be able to access the game on your new console until at least Wednesday.

Bungie have updated the FAQ on their website, detailing their expected time frame:

The PlayStation®4 digital upgrade will be available to you as close to launch as possible. We anticipate the PlayStation®4 version will be ready for you by Wednesday 9/10 at 6pm PDT, but please check back here for updates. Unfortunately, the PlayStation®4 upgrade will NOT be available for pre-order or pre-load.

Luckily, you can still play on PS3 at the moment and when the PS4 upgrade does become available, you’ll be able to transfer your character and progress over instantly. This does mean that you’re going to have to wait a bit though, with the download of the PS4 version taking even longer.

The free upgrade offer is available from PS3 to PS4 and Xbox 360 to Xbox One and will expire on January 15th 2015, so you have until then to get the game at a discount. Just not quite instantly.

  1. Despite preloading the ps3 digital guardian edition, according to the psn web store I currently own just the ps3 expansion pass. Hopefully they’ll sort it all out by tomorrow.

    I had to swap my r1/r2 l1/l2 round on the ps3 version as I’m pretty sure the ps4 has 1’s for grenade and melee and 2’s are for shooting.

    • It does have it that way round, yeah.

      Also, beware that the 6PM PDT time they state translates to 2AM on Thursday morning for the UK. Hopefully they’ll get it sorted sooner, but it might not be until Thursday.

      • I’m doing ok with the ps3 so far. One of my best mates doesn’t look like upgrading too soon so I better get used to it.

  2. Gutted. I took advantage of the £5 difference to get my PS4 version via a PS3 pre order & got up early to try the PS4 version before work, only to find our they had changed the faqs :(

  3. At least it gives people the chance to experience the generational gap between versions.

  4. I don’t really get why they didn’t just make it cross-buy for the next 6 months on psn. I’d like to be able to play it on both consoles but don’t really see why I can’t access the ps3 version if I buy the ps4 (digital) but I can the other way around.

  5. The instructions on how to claim your PS3->PS4 Destiny upgrade are WRONG!

    As instructed, I kept going to the Playstation store and trying to purchase PS4 Destiny presuming that it would detect my PS3 purchase and give it to me for free. No luck.

    And then sites like this, as well as the Bungie FAQ all indicate that the upgrade offer won’t actually happen until Wed or Thursday (or one site even said next week).

    However, I happened to check my PS4 “Library” page — the far right icon on my “recent” bar — and lo and behold it indicates that Destiny is in my PS4 library and just needs to be downloaded.

    Check your PS4 library, folks, and stay away from the PS4 store. Hope you have as good luck with this as I did.

  6. Still can’t access the free upgrade. Anyone help with this? REALLY want to get stuck into this game :(
