When Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter was announced at Sony’s E3 conference there were many fans rejoicing. The $2 million funding goal was reached in nine hours, and it is currently sitting at $4,233,380 with 13 days still to go. At the time of the announcement a PC physical edition was confirmed but PS4 owners would have had to make do with a digital copy of the game. That is until now. A new update for the project has confirmed that there will be a PS4 physical edition, available to backers who pledge $60 or more.
That’s approximately £40 for UK residents, so if you’ve been waiting for this announcement to pledge then have at it. You’re going to have to wait until 2017 for delivery though, since that is the year Shenmue 3 is expected to launch though that can obviously change depending on how development goes.

I for one am over the moon that a physical copy is now available for the PS4. Will be interesting to see how much they raise in the end. I wonder if there’s a touch of regret at Sega that they’re not involved? Here’s hoping for re masters of the first 2 games to whet our appetite first .

I’ve never played the first two and I don’t think I will play the third until I do.

There was rumours that the HD versions were coming to the 360 a few years back but nothing materialised.
I reckon they’ve saved them because they knew they’d eventually do this. I’d expect to see them at some point after they announce the official release date of Shenmue 3.
To further build the hype.

It wouldn’t be to build hype as Sega isn’t involved in the third. It would be to piggyback on the hype, but same result for consumers anyway.
