Codemasters have closed their Malta studio after the poor performance of mobile card game Battle Decks, and Overlord Fellowship of Evil, which was released a month ago. The Malta team will be folded in to the UK based studios.
“While it’s been great to explore projects outside of racing, we know that our hearts belong to racing in all its many glorious forms,” a spokesman told Eurogamer.
If that sounds rather familiar it’s because it is, back in September 2011 just after Bodycount flopped Codemasters shut down another studio so they could concentrate on racing games.
“Codemasters’ future product development strategy will see additional studio resource invested to extend its world-class racing portfolio,” they said at the time.

I feel sorry for the Malta Studio but so glad that Codies will return to racers and my god I do remember Bodycount it was quite poor but Operation Flashpoint was fantastic wouldn’t mind another one for PS4/Xbox 1/PC and new DiRT racing game too!

If this is going to the direction Codies take then they need to start making the F1 game fun. It is about as dull as most of this season’s races. Also get DiRT Rally to consoles!! All I hear is great things about the PC version and I’m holding off buying it on Steam as a PS4 version would suit my setup much better.
I’d also like to see a GRID game that is more sim like than arcade. I’m sure Codies if they really tried could make a much better game than Project CARS but sadly that is all PS4 owners have in the way of sim racing at the moment.

I’m holding off buying Dirt Rally for same reason, I reckon it’s a no-brainer porting it to PS4.
Also agree about a new Grid game as long as it’s more like the first game than second.

Great news if it means they’ll consider consoles in their plans.

Codies should have never stopped concentrating on racing games in the first place!
