There Will Be Just One Street Fighter Game This Generation

Capcom have already stated that Street Fighter V will be the only version you need to buy, there will be no ‘Super’ or ‘Ultra’ editions as they will continually update the game with new content.

“We’ve been quite honest in saying that Street Fighter V – the disc or digital edition – is the only version that you’ll ever need,” said the superbly bearded brand manager Brian Ayers.

However, the extent of this support seems to be much longer than previously thought.

“We want Street Fighter V to last a console generation,” said Ayers. “That’s a very brave move from the business side of things. But that is how we are looking at the product as well. It’s not: ‘right, get it out, it’s the first six months and then it’s done’. We’re talking lifetime on this now in years rather than quarters, which I think is quite telling in itself.”

So that’s it for Xbox owners, Street Fighter V is PlayStation console exclusive, you won’t be getting your hands on Chun Li until at least the next Xbox console.  It’s an interesting move from Capcom but fits in with the slow but gradual move to games being a service rather than a product.

Guie, Balrog, Ibuki, Juri, Alex, and Urien have all been confirmed as the first set of DLC characters and a 6GB day-one update will patch in PS3 fight sticks so they can be used on PS4.

  1. That is fantastic news about the arcade stick. Think I am sold on the new Street Fighter had a blast at it for the GAME comp. Going back there soon as I am currently third on score points in Survival Fight Stage. I will reach the top soon!

    • Is there any game your not great at! ;D

      • Sim racing and anything with MMO and Dark Souls ='( and Final Fantasy… that is all I could think off xD

      • Your part human then ;)

  2. They need to make all the 360 Street Fighters backwards compatible then, especially as they’ve no sales to lose on xbox. Though I still wouldn’t be surprised if we do see SF5 on xbox. All they’ve got to do is put out a standard corporate statement like “we underestimated fan demand, etc”

    • Yeah I agree. However if it does not come to Xbox One, I take back what I said about SF5 exclusive being a positive deal.

I’m not into this genre, but atleast you have Killer Instinct which is getting continued support. Also didn’t the 360 have Virtua Fighter as an exclusive? MS could look into that series again?

      • Virtua Fighter 5 was also on ps3, think it was one of those early pre-trophy titles that maybe flew under the radar. That’s a good suggestion though as Sega are pretty short of money these days and a money up front deal would suit them.

      • Virtua Fighter V was re-released as one of the first Playstation Plus games in 2010.
