UK Charts 27/10/18 – Red Dead Redemption 2 Shoots Straight To The Top

There was a huge amount of excitement and anticipation for Red Dead Redemption 2, but how did that transfer into game sales? Well, the game predictably shot straight to the top of the UK retail charts, and despite the growth of digital sales, it managed to sell twice as many boxed copies as its predecessor did in 2010.

However, it’s only the second fastest-selling game of the year, unable to push past FIFA 19. It’s also nowhere near the two million copies that GTA V sold in its first week on sale (with the caveat that GTA launched on a Tuesday), and so doesn’t challenge any records in that regard. That said, it’s still the third fastest non-FIFA game release this generation, with only Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare ahead of it, and could easily become a fixture at the top of the charts for the next few weeks as the online multiplayer comes online.

Here’s the top 26, which conveniently manages to show where other new games Paw Patrol: On a Roll!, Nickelodeon Kart Racers, My Hero One’s Justice and Just Dance 2019 managed to land:

  1. Why is everyone trying to find some negative side to RDR2 being number 1? It seems to have sold loads, and everyone loves it, but today everyone’s trying to find things it’s not done quite as well as.

And what’s going on with PSVR Worlds sneaking back up to 16? I guess there’s some good deals on the headset again.

    • Because it hasn’t set retail records. It’s as simple as that. I don’t think they’re negatives, it’s just putting it into perspective. It’s not bigger than FIFA, but it is bigger than the last few CODs. Yet the build up and hype for the game would have some think they’d be tilting at GTAV’s records.

      • It’s the “but it’s only” thing that makes it sound negative.

Something like Fifa is always going to sell loads, because it’s basically a subscription model now, isn’t it? You need to pay every year to get whatever’s changed. Just player names isn’t it? Have they added a battle royale mode yet?

Same with CoD, because good luck trying to find a game on a previous year’s game.

Anyway, those charts are bollocks anyway if they don’t include digital copies and only goes up to number 26 ;)

  2. Everyone is just waiting for the Christmas sale of the game. That’s why it hasn’t smashed the record. Black Friday soon come
