PS3 Shortage Affecting GoW III Sales

Sony Computer Entertainment America seem to be in a bit of pickle. Yesterday’s highly anticipated launch of Kratos’ first ever PS3 outing has been going well for the most part – unfortunately for Sony, a US shortage of PlayStation 3s may be affecting sales of God of War III.

The conclusion to the God of War saga is one of the PlayStation’s biggest exclusives and many see it as a console-seller…that is if you have any consoles to sell.

The L.A Times are reporting that physical outlets such as GameStop, Best Buy and Target, as well as online stores such as Amazon and Wal-Mart, are out of stock of PS3s with some having been that way for a “couple of weeks”

Sony America are aware and Jack Tretton admits that the situation “isn’t ideal”, although he’s confident of the game’s sales performance once hardware is readily available.

We ultimately don’t make investments on a product-by-product or month-by-month basis, but rather we invest in our platform…This game will pay off for us with the people who own a PlayStation 3 and the ones who will buy one in the future.
