Modern Warfare 3 In Development

Now that Activision are counter-suing ex-Infinity Ward luminaries Jason West and Vince Zampella, expect a whole lot of mud-slinging to occur between now and the end of this whole sordid affair.

In among all that mud, however, though the majority of the accusations are densely wrapped in the verbosity of legal jargon, snippets of actual information not previously divulged invariably have to be come to light. After all, you can hardly claim “those two bad men potentially cost us buckets of money because they tried to make their game elsewhere” without actually mentioning the game in question.

Quoting a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties, the legal monkeys have revealed the existence of a certain future blockbuster:

“Among other things, they delayed pre-production of Modern Warfare 3 and attempted to improperly leverage their rights under the MOU to obtain further advantages for themselves and concessions from Activision.

As a direct and proximate result of this breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, Activision has been forced to commit additional resources to Modern Warfare 3 …”

Still awake? The fact that Modern Warfare 3 exists is hardly an earth-shattering revelation; games that rack up a billion dollars tend to get sequels. This is, however, the first time we’ve heard official information about the game’s development status. It also does infer that the game was at least planned for development at Infinity Ward, information that, up until now, has been only assumed and even previously debunked by the studio.
