Crysis 2 Surpasses Killzone 2 – Morgan

One thing looks certain, if Richard Morgan’s stint as a game writer doesn’t work out, there’s a job waiting for him in the wings of EA PR. After thrashing Modern Warfare 2’s story and then the entire Halo franchise for being emotionally devoid, the outspoken sci-fi-author-turned-games-writer is now targeting Guerrilla Game’s Killzone 2. This time, however, he’s not criticising plot (which I’m a little surprised at to be honest. As much as I adore Killzone 2, the story would not rate as a riveting, engaging experience in my opinion), but the game’s title as having the best graphics on a console.

Morgan reckons there’s a new king on the horizon, eying the throne:

“As the lead writer of Crysis 2, they have numerous times showed me Crysis 2. This way I can visualise the scenes and scripts for the story events. I can tell you now, what I have seen of Crysis 2 in Alpha Stages, surpasses Killzone 2.”

This is hardly news per se. After all, Killzone 2 is far from considered state-of-the-art these days, and if a game released a couple of years after what is considered the current benchmark in the graphics department didn’t surpass the accepted paragon of visual excellence, we’d be a tad worried that the games industry wasn’t progressing as much as it should be. Also, Crysis on the PC is glorious to look at, so we know Crytek have the talent to produce something spectacular.

The more interesting question is: with Killzone 3 sure to emerge this year, if Crysis 2 dethrones Guerrilla’s visually sublime game, how long with the new king be sitting on his perch before he, too, is usurped?
