Not a good few days for GAME. Lower than expected profits and the chief resigns, Volcano warnings and less than happy staff due to their hours being cut. Quite how a company that is still making 90 million profit and a turn over in excess of 1 billion is falling apart remains unclear.
The latest cut backs is the announcement that an extra 127 stores will close on top of the already announced closures. This will leave 550 GAME and Gamestation stores at the end of Christmas 2013.
“We continue actively to review our UK store base, with a view to minimising store overlap and maximising opportunities from lease expiries, breaks and rent reviews,” chairman Peter Lewis stated.
“Our stores are a place to experience games, and the format is evolving to cater for their changing needs and the incoming new technology,” he added. “We are trialling interactive kiosks and improved ecommerce connectivity in selected stores to expand further the range with thousands more product lines and enhanced the customer experience.
