Not rebuilt from scratch, but the graphics engine behind LittleBigPlanet 2 shares some tech with Sony Santa Monica’s God Of War III.
Speaking to Edge, Media Molecule’s Alex Evans says that their game has borrowed Kratos’ depth-of-field effects, and the sequel to Sackboy’s PS3 adventures has been given sharper, cleaner graphics all around.
In addition, expect better defined objects, shadows and ambient occlusion.
The team have added transparency effects for clouds, feathers and better lighting too, with god rays, volumetric fog and burning objects all casting their own light sources.
Best of all, all these enhancements will apply to existing LittleBigPlanet levels you’ve built. “Fuck me, it looks different,” said Evans, speaking on the existing Darkness story level.
Media Molecule are aiming for 100% backwards compatibility. “I hope we do,” said Evans.
