OPM Confirm June Firmware Update

Remember us exclusively revealing that PS3 Firmware 3.40 had been (albeit temporarily) released to developers? Well, it appears that this will be the big “3D gaming update” and, according to the Official PlayStation Magazine, will be released for ‘normal’ PS3s in June but won’t include the Blu-ray update.

Picked up by System Link, the magazine claims that “the firmware update coming in June that will get your PS3 ready for 3D gaming won’t do the same for its Blu-ray functionality,” which seems like either they know something we don’t (they claim it’s “according to Sony” or OPM read too much of TheSixthAxis.

“That will come at a later date,” says the magazine in reference to 3D Blu-ray playback. “3D is simply too big for this not to happen at all.”

Answers on a postcard, dudes.
