Privates “Not Permitted” On XBL

Bad news for anyone that liked the sound of upcoming XBL game ‘Privates’. It’s a game featuring condom-hatted marines battling “oozy, shouty monsters” inside “vaginas and bottoms”. It was meant to be fun, satirical and educational, a joint venture between Zombie Cow Studios and Channel 4, but it looks like it won’t even make it to consoles…in it’s original form, at least.

Speaking with Seattlepi.com, Microsoft spokesman David Dennis said:

While we haven’t seen this game, we can confirm that if it is consistent with the description we have seen on the Internet, this game would not pass peer review and would not be permitted to be distributed on Xbox Live.

The game hasn’t actually been submitted to the pre-publication peer review process yet but Microsoft prohibit the publication of “strong sexual content.”

If Zombie Cow Studios and Channel 4 definitely want it to appear on XBL then it looks like the game will have to be neutered.

The game’s designer – Dan Marshall – has also been speaking to Seattlepi.com and has stated that they will do “whatever [they] can” to get the game onto the 360. He added:

It’d be a shame if a huge number of teenagers missed out on some quality gaming and vital education because of some abstract, cellular-level innards and pubic hairs.

Although the content nudges the boundaries of the XBIG terms, I’m pretty sure we’re acceptably within them – particularly when the educational value of the title becomes apparent…

According to Marshall the game was created following health guidelines from the UK’s National Cirriculum.
