Mass Effect Film Optioned

Legendary Pictures, the studio behind blockbusters such as The Dark Knight and 300, have confirmed they will bring BioWare’s sci-fi epic Mass Effect to the big screen. Script-writer Mark Protosevich, who wrote the I Am Legend screenplay (among other things), is currently in talks to pen the movie’s screenplay.

The film will be produced by former Marvel Studios’ executive Avi Arad, his son Ari, with Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni of Legendary Pictures also getting their names in lights for doing next to nought. Avi Arad Productions is also producing adaptations of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, inFAMOUS and Lost Planet, all of which are currently going through the scripting phase. The producer has high hopes for the galactic tale, stating:

“[It’s] a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world.  This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together.”

BioWare co-founders Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will be credited as Executive Producers of the film along with a whole host of other people you likely don’t care about.
