Rumoursmash: Ancel Still At Ubi

The thing about “sources” is that they are invariably untrustworthy. Or, as we’re now seeing in relation to the recent “Michel Ancel has left Ubisoft” bluff, may never have actually existed in the first place.

After the media furore surrounding the apparent departure of Monsieur Ancel from the Montpellier branch of Ubisoft, almost immediately we saw counter-claims and assurances from numerous industry figures that, not only was Ancel still at the company, but that his next game, a sequel to cult-classic Beyond Good & Evil, is still very much on track.

Eurogamer spoke with the French studio and, quite succinctly we might add, are reporting the pithy yet definitive response:

“There are no changes on the horizon.”

Pushed if Ancel still has a parking space at the studio, the company responded with a clear as day “Yes.” There you have it. Sources are like carnival folk. You can trust them if you want, and there’s some inherent fun believing their hogwash, but just don’t be surprised when you learn the hat you’re trying to knock off in order to win that giant panda is glued on to the mannequin.
