There have been countless games within the ‘Hero’ franchise and the games themselves haven’t changed much since its critically acclaimed debut. Despite several revamps of the accompanying peripherals, the guitars haven’t changed much, either.
But that’s all about to change.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is the latest title in the ever-increasing range of games but it brings with it the most dramatic change to the controls that you strum, whammy and occasionally set on fire…depending on how enthusiastic a rocker you are*.
The body of the guitar no longer houses any functional components – the electronics are now housed in the neck and fretboard – meaning that there is a new-found level of freedom in terms of the guitar’s design. As you can see from the video, the guitar body is detachable, interchangable and actually useless – other than from an asthetic point of view. But, boy, does that view look good!
Activision have yet to announce the price for these funky new controllers but they will be available for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3. Speaking with Gizmodo, Activision stated that future designs could be styled around the genre of music featured within the game.
*Setting fire to your plastic guitar-shaped controller is not big or clever and will more than likely leave a rather horrible mess on your carpet. Please don’t do it.
