I’m going to try to be competely inpartial here – it’s early, I’ve not really slept but this appears to be the official Kinect lifestyle video, the one that’s meant to appeal to casual gamers.

I’ll be honest, though, and say that I’m a bit confused.  Do Microsoft really think there’s a market for such overly family based experiences on their Xbox 360, especially one that now looks like this?

I don’t know if it’s just the video, but there appears to be some insane lag too, from the boat jumping to the guys setting off on the track, the delay is there to see.  The graphics look great, though.

  1. I am very interested to see how well it sells. Most people here are obioulsy not the target, so it doesnt matter if we think its shit. I wont buy it.
    But maybe those parents who never gamed themselves but want to play computer games with their children? Maybe those who cant hold a controller because of some sort of injury? There is a lot of potential customers, but its a completely different market.

      I want to see the Star wars game that was shown last night. Virtual lightsabers alone are a system seller

    • As soon as I explained the general idea my step-mum stopped wanting a Wii and started wanting this. This was last E3 as well when it was a long way off. I think it’s certainly got some of the cool factor and the ability to capture the imagination.

  2. Looks fantastic, all the fun (and yes they were bloody great fun) of the EyeToy games but this time they actually work. My daughter would love the dancing one… Like seriously spend stupid amounts of time love it.
    Now if the new Xbox model features Blu-ray movie playback I’ll be trading my pus3

      • He is. A lot of people like to hate on Jim but it’s just because he’s honest to the point of being belligerent (and they’re jealous of his ability). He’s also a really big-hearted, generous guy. Something that doesn’t really come across in the above linked video! :)

      • I like him because there aren’t many people like him around, but I do suspect half the stuff he writes is just trolling & does it purely for the hits.

      • I hope he continues his reporting at E3 like this. Wonder if MS will invite him back for todays show?

      • I don’t think he does it for the hits. He’s gotten death threats and some really nasty stuff from people he’s met who were pissed at him slating a game they like or whatever. He’s just unrepentant about what he doesn’t like.

        He gave Alpha Protocol a 2 and mentioned how he’s not looking forward to seeing Sega at E3 this year because of it. (He’s a big Sega fan)

      • I only came to that opinion after he gave ACII a 4/10 or whatever and he followed it up with so many unashamedly trolling-type articles it just looked way beyond belligerence.

        I seriously can believe he’s a nice guy though

    • I thought he was a bit over the top about it, until I watched the video of the show (http://video.destructoid.com/#164359 ) & the Star Wars demo really looks like mime! I think Microsoft are out of their depth with this kind of marketing.

    I also wonder how it will know who’s hand to recognise to forward the video, if its anyones then that could make watching something a nightmare, especially with little kids who are always jumping around in front of the TV.

    Not convinced yet on this…

  6. Thus far, the Kinect reveal has been spectacularly underwhelming. I say thus far, as MS may have some Kinect-using big hitters at their press conference today. As it stands, it looks like they really need to pull something out the bag to stop this being initially perceived as a flop.

  7. If that’s the actual lag I’m very disappointed, although it would seem odd given it’s more than we’ve seen in the development units. This suggests that their tech has got worse which I find hard to believe.

    • I don’t think its actual lag, I think its added in the video editing so people viewing the video can see that if you jump, the game jumps, the extra split/second helps people process the information they are seeing

  8. OK watching the dancing game. The little girl in red is obviously way out of time and doing the wrong moves. Her on screen character is perfectly in synch.

  10. Good lord. That was interesting. Um… well, that’s me out of everything to do with Kinect. I want to relax with my gaming. Especially after going to the gym.
