Criterion Boast About NFS Stats

Criterion are starting to open up about their new EA-powered Need For Speed title, which appears to be drawing heavily from the Burnout Paradise ethos of exploration and scope.

On the official Criterion Games Twitter account, the details are starting to emerge about what sounds like being one hell of an open world follow up to one of last year’s best racing games.

First up, the size: “Over 100 miles of open road,” says the spokesperson for the studio. “Ten and a half square miles,” it contines, following up with “Four times larger than Paradise City” as if to give the stats some sense of scale.  Pretty massive, let’s hope it’s interesting too.

But that’s not it, the game has just been confirmed to run in 3D on PC and PS3, and Criterion have managed to lock down Porsche exclusively for the game.

And speaking of Porsche – that amazing looking thing above is the 918 Spyder, which was unveiled in March and, apparently, playing in Hot Pursuit 3 days later.  Nice, if you’re working on the game.

  1. I was desperately hoping that Criterion might go back to regular start-to-finish racing with NFS back to the golden days of Burnout 2 and 3.

Especially after being let down by Split/Second.

    • Split/Second was far from being a let down…

      • Agreed mate, I think Split/Second is a great game and I wrote a TSA Verdict to reflect that.

      • I know for many it wasn’t, it just didn’t do it for me.

    • Split/Second is fun for a while but after that it gets boring because you know where everything that explodes is at.

  2. Well Shift’s been in 3D on the PC for ages with nVidia’s 3D vision software, so it’s unsurprising really.

Also can’t get enough of the Hot Persuit trailer, it ALWAYS sends a shiver down my spine… AMAZIN

  3. The wheels look like they were taken straight from a caricature ! I could probably bat one off to that pic……. what ?!

  4. 1. That spyder is a very nice car. 2. 4 times bigger than paradise city? Jesus! 3. Size isn’t everything (so my girlfriend always tells me). 4. If that massive city doesn’t have lots of variety and fun things to do, the game will be boring.

In case if this is of any use for articles such as this.

  6. Criterion? Open world? Bigger than Burnout?

Count me in. First NFS since Underground 2.

  7. I would probably get this anyway as i loved Hot Pursuit2 on Ps2 and the trailer took me right back.. :)

  8. Wow, if it were possible to have sex with a scre….lets not go there, you get my point!

  9. Why can I see through those wheels?

  10. Wait.. Porsche? Poor Polyphony…

    • It hasnt done them any harm up til now.. They always went with Ruf anyway.

    • Its okay Ruf are cool
