More PSP 2 Rumours

Does the PSP 2 exist? Has anybody seen it? Is it just a load of guff stirred up by rumour mongerers on the Internet? Just what is the secret of the Black Magic box? All these questions* will be answered in the future but for now we’re stuck in the present. Well we were, it’s just gone, it’s now a ‘new’ present. Now that’s gone as well, read quicker will you or else we will never get to the end of the news item.

The latest gossip comes from The Wall Street Journal no less where an article regarding 3G connections states the following:

“Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of hand-held game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter.”

That does sound an awful lot like previous PSP 2 rumours in that it will be a full multimedia device rather than just a games console. Of course they may also be referring to a new tablet device rather than the PSP 2, I guess we shall just have to wait until the future arrives.

* Apart from the secret of the Black Magic box. No one will ever know that.

  1. Don’t believe there’ll be a PSP2 for ages yet… if ever, but even if it can’t compete with the 3DS, there’s one mistake Nintendo made with the 3DS design they could conceivably capitalise on: Put two analogue sticks on the PSP2.

The most common whinge with the PSP is the lack of two analogue sticks, which is why I don’t get why the 3DS only has one(Lets face it, you won’t be able to use the stick AND touch screen at the same time). It won’t set the world on fire doing this, but it’ll win some people over, as would fully integrating the system with the PS3 and eventual PS4 in ways like having a cross console profile system with transferrable trophies and such and cross platform online play for multiplatform titles, etc…

Actually, that all sounds a bit expensive… forget I said anything.

No, but not all games, particularly “core” games will use the touch screen extensivly, or at leats not for controlling the character. It’ll be used for munues and inventory and things like that (like how the DS is now).

  2. 3g would be awesome, it would mean online gaming on the go!

  3. Probably not the PSP2 … but a iPad alternate?
