Why should you care about the recently announced “reimagining” of Tactics Ogre on the PSP? Because it’s by Yasumi Matsuno, that’s why. Yasuma-who-now? Matsuno, the same guy who made Vagrant Story, the best game you never played, and Final Fantasy Tactics, the best game you did play but probably balked at the level of stats going on.
Tactics Ogre came before both of these, Matsuno-san dazzling RPG fans with a new flavour of statistics-based tactical gameplay and an innovative (for its time) branching narrative. If you thought Inception was baffling, you should see how Tactics Orge can end, the game having more (and varied) endings than a typical Hollywood slasher villain.
The rebuilt game for the PSP gets a new title “Tactics Ogre: Wheel of Fate” and will be totally awesome. It will sell loads, too. Trust us. The game even has its original staff back for the remake, with director Hiroshi Minagawa, the aforemetnioned Yasumi Matsuno, designers Akihiko Yoshida and Tsubasa Masao, and composers Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata all returning.
The game will receive the expected bump in graphical fidelity along with some other gameplay enhancements like the ability to now have 30 units on one map at the same time. More mayhem. We approve.

I never heard of this game before today, and I hated FF Tactics.
But I dó love Disgaea, a lot. I think I’ll like this one.

Ahh the memorys of Vagrant Story, one of my all time favourite games (and i dont even like RPG’s) The graphics at the time were fan-dabee-dozy. If only they would make a sequel on the PS3!
