It’s been just over four years since the last Hitman game, but if a new reporton Eurogamer is to be believed, it’s still going to be a while before we return to assassinating the unfortunate with cheese-wire and shoving their corpses in freezers.
The site is claiming that ever-knowledgeable “sources” are claiming Hitman 5 will be coming to PC, PS3 and 360 in time for next Christmas “at the earliest.” Last week concept art turned up online that hinted at a new game in the series, but the series’ developers IO Interactive were quick to shoot down any expectations, saying the art “does not represent any new Hitman game.” Eurogamer’s sources, however, are saying that the images are indeed “likely” linked to the game. I just don’t know what to believe any more.
The last we heard about a new Hitman game was from a Variety report last year that claimed a new game would be released in late 2010, to tie in somehow with a sequel movie, however IO responded that “there is no way we will be basing a storyline for a new Hitman game on the story in a licensed movie. That’s just not how we work so you shouldn’t be concerned about that.” An actor’s resume from last year also listed a new entry in the series coming from Batman developers Rocksteady, but this was denied.
Play.com are listinga Hitman 5 for 28th November next year, although a no-show on Amazon, Game, ShopTo and others suggests that if the date is indeed accurate, Play.com have clearly got some secret sources of their own. For their part, IO parent company Square Enix told Eurogamer: “It’s flattering to see so many fans are eager for another Hitman game. Unfortunately we have nothing to announce at this time.”
Update: In the most recent Official PlayStation Magazine podcast during a discussion as to why Hitman 5 was not revealed at E3, Leon Hurley says ‘I’ve seen things, I know it’s coming.‘

the flexibility in these games was amazing, loved being able to sneak around through sewers, pop up in a building with a sniper rifle, or just run through the streets with a shotgun blasting anything that moved!

It’s so different from other types of ‘stealthy’ games (I’m looking at you splinter cell) it gives you the choice to approach the game how you want to, instead of killing everyone.

OPM saw computer screens with the Hitman logo on them when they went to IO interactive when they first previewed K&L 2:Dog days.

Mmm good old development hell. Looking forward to this if and when it surfaces though, they were great games! I still remember playing the old Triad level from the first game over and over, there is just so much to do in them.

Love the Hitman series , pity we have to wait so long but i reckon a definite buy for me.

It has been way too long since the last Hitman. I rather enjoyed it on PS2 so will be keeping my eye on this

I had never played a Hitman game until Blood Money and loved that so went back to the older games. I didn’t like them as much but a new one, if it plays like Blood Money, might be very interesting

The Hitman games were really great and I do hope this rumour is true, but the one thing that annoyed me about the previous games is that you can almost always beat a level just by pulling out ‘yer ballers’ and letting rip.. I hope this time round he isn’t quite so bulletproof and Rambo-tactics are punished.

Yeah but beating a level’s not the same as walking out with no-one having had any clue what happened and no-one but the target(s) dead, bagging you that elusive Silent Assassin rating. Though I hear what your sayin about his lead resistance.
Erroneus
Oh it’s defiantly coming and they were aiming for 2011, if they will make 2011, due to K&L2 dev. is unsure at the moment.
