Heavy Rain Shifts 1.5m Units

David Cage is a happy man as Heavy Rain has smashed predicted sales figures and has reached 1.5 million units shifted. He also hopes the game will pass the 2 million sales barrier by the end of the year.

Cage also revealed the average review score taken from a survey of 500 reviews was over 90% (I wonder if that included our review that gave the game 7/10) .

What is surprising for a game launched back in February is that the title is still selling at near the RRP and has not been discounted.

Play.com and HMV are still selling the title for £37.99, Amazon will flog you the game for £32.99 with only ShopTo.net discounting the title to £26.99, but that is part of their weekly specials rather than a permanent price reduction.

  1. Is the game getting a patch for Move or a whole new release?

    • Both: there’s a free patch coming for the original game, but it’s also being re-released at retail in ‘Move Edition’ packaging.

  2. Was holding off on getting this due to money and other games needing play time, but I’ll definitely pick this up when it receives Move support.

  3. My favourite game so far this year. Will never play it again though as I got the best ending already, and couldn’t bear to get a bad one! Some of the ones ive heard about are too sad lol.

  4. Brilliant game, looking forward to the Move patch and hopefully they will get some time for some more chronicles.

  5. Congrats. Good sales (well, great sales) to existing PS3 owners. Not really got the worlds non-gamers running down the stores for a copy though, and hasn’t made the mainstream breakthrough that Cage said it would during the promo pre-release period. But great sales all the same for a title with platform exclusivity

  6. Congratz, great game

  7. Great game and well done on selling 1.5m copies. Ive already got the platinum for it but will play through it again once move comes out. Hopefully further sales will encourage them to release more dlc…i know they said it wasnt going to happen but one can only hope

  8. 1.5m is just the people who bought it. It’s probably been played by more than that due to renting and lending off friends as i did. Will definitely be getting the Move re-release though as i believe it’s a great game and will be even better with Move

  9. Good to see a PS3 exclusive title doing so well. Move should definitely give those sales figures a nice boost.

  10. Sony should be congratulated for giving the game a chance – as has been stated before, in a sea of FPS, generic driving games and the like, Heavy Rain is different.
