It appears, as some predicted, that most gamers either don’t know about the technical differences between two versions of the same game, or, more importantly, don’t care.
Despite 2K themselves stating that, visually at least, the PS3 version isn’t quite as good as the 360’s, Mafia II has sold more on the Sony platform in Europe than the Microsoft one, at least according to VGChartz (via PSLS).
“There will not be highly detailed grass or large pools of blood, the cloth movement is less noticeable than, for example, the PC version, and the visual fidelity in the demo is generally representative of what you’ll see in the full game,” said Elizabeth Tobey, 2K’s Senior Manager of Interactive Marketing.
“We don’t care,” said the PS3 owning public.
According to VGChartz, who collate their own data to provide sales figures across the world, the PS3 version has sold 96,112 copies in Europe, and the Xbox 360 85,016. Both versions sit atop the charts for the last week.
We’ll have a full review, warts and all, of the game very soon.

i was expecting something big, like some kind of patch which gives it near-pc specs. like post-ps1 grass, or post-sotc clothes. but no. oh, sales. yay. because SALES is what matters to me, a PS3 fanboy…
apologies for the double post. i have become more cynical in these past few hours. gimme an edit button and i’d use it.

And this is why the developers never care too.
