Sky Player Gets Kinect Support

Microsoft will be introducing Kinect based gesturing to the Xbox 360 Sky Player on November 10 – which is the day the device launches in the UK.

They had the following to say:

“Selecting a favourite show, changing live channels, or easily scrolling forward and back through on-demand content is all made possible by a simple wave of a hand.”

Fights over who watches what channel will now become much more epic, with sneaky gesture based channel changes, and possible breaking of hands to stop said sneakiness.

  1. Whoopie fucking doo, Annoy the neighbours by yelling at the telly louder than what the telly/hifi is currently playing.

Another waste of time for what will be a total waste of everyones time.

    • gesturing you say! Ah, well disregard my last rant and use this one instead…

Jesus, what exactly is wrong with using a remote ffs!

  2. Id prefer to sit and use a controller to change channels :)

  3. Utterly bizarre. Both genius and utterly ridiculous at the same time. The movements must be extremely specific or all hell could break loose as others have quite rightly mentioned, so if you have to gesture in such a specific manner … surely it’s actually easier to just press a button?

Having written all that, I’m edging toward it being really quite silly. But, who knows? It’s potentially the best thing ever.

  4. I’d have thought the ability to access all the console’s menus/features using Kinect would be something that was a given out of the box.

Regardless, if you have a remote control, what is the point?

  5. what happens if you sneeze? do you have to make sure there is no movement at all while wacthing? here is a easier solution it is called a tv remote.
