Uncharted 2 Crowned “Greatest PlayStation Game”

In case you weren’t aware, PlayStation turned 15 in Europe this week and Official PlayStation Magazine is also releasing its 50th issue. To celebrate both events they have published the results of a survey of its readers to decide the greatest ever PlayStation game. The poll saw “thousands of votes cast” but in the end Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves came out on top. Special mention should go to Metal Gear Solid which manages to fill 3 places in the top 10.

The full 50 is in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine. I imagine many of you will probably have different favourites so share your top 10s below. Personally I’m disappointed by the lack of Crash Bandicoot and Timesplitters.

  1. Timesplitters 2 got to 34 and crash was at number 31…

    • Brilliant, I’ve only seen the top 10. Still think they should be higher.

    • UC2 is good, but not the best. its probably up ther as its the freshest in peoples head, and some of the voters never actually played the games you are talking about… i bet if they broke it down into age groups, the older gamers would have had a completely different set of results

      • Red Dead drove me round the bend with all the travelling on horses. I just felt like I wasting so much time.

    • Isn’t that why it’s called a vote? A large proportion of the gaming population have given their opinions and here’s the results, instead of asking perhaps one person (or the other two avatar-less people below you).
      Seems about right to me.

      • why did you bring up us being avatarless? I at least visit this site a lot, an avatar doesn’t exactly set other people above us…
        anyway, I know theres quite a few people that agree with us.

      • How the heck is Vice City on the top list and not San Andreas ? Otherthen the soundtrack San Andreas pi**es all over Vice City any day.

        San Andreas should be the 1st best Playstation game not Uncharted 2 which came out like 5 mins ago. Uncharted 2 best PS3 game but hell sure isn’t 1st best Playstation game ever.

        Heck I would put Jax and Daxter and even Crash Bandicoot on the top list before I even think of Uncharted 2.

      • hey it’s our opinions and that 4 of the games are muiltplat so they can’t really be counted as the best ps game ever.
        and so what if we haven’t got an avatar.

    • COD4 and red dead redemption has no place on the list ,they are not a PlayStation only title ,COD4 in my opinion was okay and not even remotely great in any way,it was really over-hyped and once i got it i was reallllllllllly dissapointed,red dead redemption had most of its gameplay time spent traveling on a horse with little or no action in-between.these 2 for me don’t even deserve to be in the top 20 let alone the top 10. i think many people have forgotten the original PlayStation games as well as alot of the ps2 ones,however it does depend from gamer to gamer as to what they think is great and what they do not,Uncharted 2 definitely deserves its spot as 1,it is truly a great game and worthy of that title.

  6. Ok fair enough with Uncharted 2 being the best game on THAT list. In my opinion. However, in my opinion Uncharted 2 may be the best game on the PS3, it is NOT the best game ever to grace Playstation hardware however, (naturally, in my opinion, it ranks up there though!)
    Very confused about some of the other rankings.. But hey, this is what happens when the majority of people decide. (As I always say, take a peep at the singles chart top 10 to see what rubbish makes it in thanks to the majority).

    • yeha you’re right there. I’m surprised at a few to be honest. Crash should of been in there, I spent most of my ps2 days on those games.

Can see why Uncharted2 was voted, but if it was as fresh in the memory as some of those older games I doubt it would have been as high, so I think its in there because its a new great game as opposed to being a truely great game, the multiplayer was good but hasn’t clicked with people on a big scale so therefore it doesn’t have the legs of some of the titles like FFVII & GTA:VC, which although don’t have multi-player do have legs

    Glad to see Vice City getting the nod over the bore-fest SA or IV, but a list without SSX3/Tricky in the top10 isn’t worth looking at, is it?

    • When I saw SSX3 at 47 (I think), genuine shock hit me. The people who voted clearly didn’t play many good games.

      • I wonder how many who voted were to young to even remember some of them. If there’s not be a sequel this generation the games seem to have struggled to get enough votes.

      • im young but even i would of voted either gt series or crash 1 my first game at 3 but im happy with uc2 considering im playing for 100% right now and is superrr great and so is gow which is WHERE!!!!!?????

    • To be honest I think only 3 or 4 of those would be in my top 50 let alone top 10 but then this is what happens with more and more people voting.

      Some of my favourite PS1 games probably didn’t break the top 100 (Kula World, Bomberman World, Parasite Eve 2). I’d also take Dead Space over any of the Resident Evil Games and GTA 1 or 2 over any of the later ones.

      I’m a little suprised not to see a Gran Turismo in the Top 10.

    • Yeah I agree, It’s obvious coz Uncharted 1 isn’t there! and why cod4 is there. You can’t trust the public for accurate votes, but this is just for fun though so who cares.

      For what it’s worth, Uncharted 2 is still the single best piece of computerised entertainment I have ever experienced since my first Game & Watch at age 4. Seriously, in more than 30 years of gaming, U2 is the one that left me gasping the most.

        Plenty of replies on this article seem to of kinda agreed but because it doesn’t fit with your opinion that U2 is the best thing ever, rather than just reply with a counter-point you make a comment like that

      • I thought U2 was a disappointment, haven’t finished it and don’t feel any real need to attempt to. Whereas the first uncharted game is one of the very few games I’ve played through more than once.
