GameStation have just announced that today marks the start of their brand new loyalty card scheme, dubbed the Elite card. Plugging into the mind set of gamers addicted to experience points, achievements (and, it seems, shooters) the card carries over from what the company did in Scotland a couple of years back, but rolling it out across the UK.
The Elite card is free to join up for, and gamers will get 10 “Elite Experience Points” for every £1 spent and traded in. Here’s where it gets clever, though – by behaving in a certain way, you’ll get more points, 360 Achievements style. For example, you get 500 XP (and a Speed Freak accolade) if you trade a game in within 14 days of launch.
The cynical would assume that this means Gamestation will get a much fresher rotation of stock which they can sell higher, but – hey – you get 500 XP.
Other Elite accolades include:
- Soldier of Fortune – 250 XP earned for buying your first pre-owned item
- Get Your Wings – 500 XP earned by performing your first trade-in
- Lightening Speed – 2000 XP earned by trading in 10 games within 14 days of launch
- Bolt Speed – 4000 XP earned by trading in 25 games within 14 days of launch
Rob Voase, head at Gamestation Elite said: “We know that gamers are a loyal band of brothers – this is their chance to join the best of the best. If you think you’ve got it, then you’ve got to join. We respect your gaming pedigree and this will reward what is important to you.”
250 XP is gained after 6 active months in the program, and 2000 XP rewarded to gamers loyal to the programme after 5 years. There is, according to the press release, even an accolade called Unleash the Beast, where 250 XP are earned by each gamer when the entire gamestation Elite community accumulates 2,000,000,000 XP.

I usually buy online and trade in at Game and use any money to buy the wife’s DS games. Another supllier who offers a bonus for doing what I’m already doing is a good thing for me.

GAME reward card?
2.5% discount and you can trade-in on promo weekends when they give extra credit.

the card rewards you for doing more of what you already do, it actually rewards you better than the GAME reward card. its also tripple XP for the first week.
in perspective, you go in and buy pes this week, its £39.99 unless you price match (and they still will) £39.99 gets you 400xp thats £1 off your next buy, but its triple XP so youll end up with £3 off your next buy, and if you trade in to get the game aswell they will add your trade in points and triple it aswell. i think its amazing loyalty scheme giving me more money. hell yeah.
and yes gamestation is owned by game… but they cant rebrand it because the monopolys commision said so.

Cheesy, yes but if you think it’s complicated you might be a little simple
shields_t
Oh I’m definitely a little simple, I’ve little doubt of that.
Charmed_Fanatic
cool spin on the GAME card, but i already have thousands of points on that, so no thanks :)
jayjay119
Me to but I nevr shop in game unless there is something extremely low in price or I absolutely cannot get it in Gamestation so I feel a Gamestation card would be of more use to me.

What the hell is this “GameStation?”

A really novel way of tailoring a loyalty/reward program to their market.
Most loyalty cards give 1%-4% back depending on the promotions they’re doing, I think this fits in that bracket.
I wonder (cba to look) if you can clock up points by buying online (where they’re cheaper than in store) with them AND use Quidco on top giving further money back

if you buy 40 games at 40 pounds, you get enough exp to trade in for a game worth… 40 pounds!
doesnt sound that appealing…

It’s just a loyalty card but with a slightly unique (and well targeted) angle, nothing more or less. I always shop online for games because the prices still beat any reward deals anyway but if you are a regular buy and trade person, it’s a bit of fun
