NFS Shift 2 Unleashed Announced

NFS Hot Pursuit is barely out the door yet EA has just announced that NFS Shift 2 Unleashed will be heading to stores in 2011.  One of the game’s tasks is “Capturing the physicality and brutality of racing at 200mph” via a new helmet cam, night racing, and car/track degradation.  The ‘Autolog’ feature will also be making an appearance to spice up the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, the game is set for release in spring 2011.

  1. Spring, I will only be half way through GT5 by then let alone getting to play Hot Pursuit

  2. great another series that’s going to get run into the ground by feature creep from yearly updates.

of course they’ll be screwed when they’ve made sure nobody can trade in their old games so they don’t buy the new ones, wont they?

good job there’s nothing like the world cup for motor racing, they’d release six versions that year.

  3. Surprised at the negative reactions. NFS Shift was easily one of the best racers for PS3, way better than Undercover and Carbon and I suspect it will be better than Hot Pursuit as well.

What made Shift good was precisely that it broke away from NFS of old and took it in a new direction. AFAICR it got more or less universal acclaim.

I think some of you are failing to realise that HP and Shift are not competing with each other.

    • Yup, Shift is competing with GT5 and Forza, the fact its multiplatform along with EA’s ability to grab hold of licences will mean the Shift part of the franchise has a very bright future.

  4. The first Shift would have been a good game if it wasn’t for all the bugs, like driving along one of the USA tracks when suddenly the front of your car would shoot up 10+ feet into the air for no apparent reason.

  5. Looking forward to this. I like how we have a “serios” NFS and a “Less Serious” NFS. The first Shift had real potential, it’s a great racing developer and they have the official FIA GT3 & GT1 series licences too! Also, this trailer is on the Spa track, good stuff

  6. Hmm, Shift was fine I guess, suffered from a poor frame rate, crappy AI, an “interesting” physics model (though they fixed most of the bouncing), and an innovative yet crappy view hat blurred out things it would have been handy to see while racing.

Despite all this I did enjoy it.

Interesting to see they went with some crazy crashing and panel bashing to show off their new sim though.

I did like Spa at night though.

  7. not a big fan of NFS, its gotten a little bit stale after the billionth game.i would be way more excited for a new ridge racer game.

  8. I’d never played a NFS game until Shift came out, but I enjoyed it. It helped fill the void a bit whilst GT5 was being developed!! ;)

  9. I’m not quite sure why they want to release it so soon. Surely everybody is still going to be playing Gran Turismo 5 which – let’s face it – is going to be better. Maybe they’re targeting Xbox 360 owners?
