NFS Shift 2 Unleashed Announced

NFS Hot Pursuit is barely out the door yet EA has just announced that NFS Shift 2 Unleashed will be heading to stores in 2011.  One of the game’s tasks is “Capturing the physicality and brutality of racing at 200mph” via a new helmet cam, night racing, and car/track degradation.  The ‘Autolog’ feature will also be making an appearance to spice up the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios, the game is set for release in spring 2011.

  1. looking good ! but releasing two NFS’s in a year seems like cashing in to me.

    • Three NfS in the next 12 months – give or take a couple of days.

Following on from Ubisoft’s announcement that there will be some AC in 2011 despite previously saying it will be a year off, and various other stuff is why I wrote my Sunday Thoughts… new IP be gone core-franchise City is here to stay.

      rinse & repeat

  2. Why doesn’t someone redo Destruction Derby for PS3? That would be just fab!

    • I’ve been thinking that myself!

    • That would be ace.. I’ve said this a few times to people

    • It would be sweet and not to mention how much fun online could be

  3. I hated shift, it didn’t feel like NFS to me!

    • Tried it at a friend’s house, and didn’t like it. I was thinking about buying up until that point.

      • Yeah, I was the same, my dad had it. He didn’t like it either, it felt like a Gran Turismo wannabe!

  4. Another … might as well call it NFS Cash Cow

  5. I have had enough of Need for Speed…..

  6. What a shame EA couldn’t allow Criterion a little time to breathe

    • won’t this game be developed by the other NFS dev team, black rock studios ins’t it?

      • oops just spotted that this one is developed by Slightly Mad Studios

      • lol they’re Disney

      • what I meant was to allow Criterion some time to get their game out the door, and chart hopefully highly, before allowing the conveyor belt to continue

  7. EA and Activision are over doing it now. Flooding the market is a good way of lowering the value of your product. If I get NFS:HP then I won’t be getting any other NFS next year, ESPECIALLY when I’ll have GT5.

    • Getting NfSHP which will keep me going on the racing front until another Criterion or Black Rock Studios racer is released.

  8. WOOHOOO I loved shift, I’ve only just 100% finished everything including exotics :) happy days!!!

  9. But why announce it now? Seems like a strange time. Why not wait until the NFS fever from HP has died down a bit.

    • If I’m right, I thought EA had always made it known that they were going to be releasing a NFS each year, they have different dev teams working on them over 2 year cycles just like Activision do with CoD. Does seem abit odd though to official announce it a couple of days before Hot Persuit comes out.

      • This isn’t that… They’ll have a Need For Speed arcade racer game released every single November with Criterion & Black box alternating a 2 year dev cycle and they they’ll have Slightly Mad studios releasing a sim-style racer under the NfS Shift brand every two years, so basically 5 NfS games every 2 years

Quite where this leaves Burnout though isn’t known as up until now Criterion have always been a one project at a time studio… damn EA!

  10. Just do a NFS game that is STREET RACING like underground 1 and 2.

    • I have found memories of those games! Went all tits up in the series after that for the street racing, carbon, undercover pah!! I enjoyed Pro-Street but it had it’s fault, just like Shift did. Here’s hoping Hot Persuit delivers.
