Portal 2 Delayed

Once again I find myself the bearer of bad news, as the fantastic looking Portal 2 has been pushed back from its original February release date, to April 20th in North America and Australia , and April 22nd in Europe.  Oddly enough the news brought a wry smile to my face, which is all down to Valve’s press release:

“Valve today announced that Portal 2 — the sequel to the ground-breaking title that won over 30 game of the year awards, despite missing its original ship date — will now be available the week of April 18th, 2011.

This two month slip not only marks the shortest delay in Valve’s proud tradition of delays, it represents the approaching convergence of Valve Time and Real Time. Though this convergence spells doom for humanity, it will not affect the new Portal 2 release date.”

We’re all doomed!

  1. At least they have a sense of humour about it. To be honest I didn’t know it had a date yet anyway

  2. Good stuff. 1 that was amusing. 2 the game will be all the better for the delay. Not like there’s a massive shortage of quality products right now is it?

  3. LOL! Now that’s a good press release :D

  4. Yay, more time for Dead Space 2 and Marvel Vs Capcom 3 then.

  5. Aww! Missing the enrichment centre! Was hoping to get this as valentines present, now it will just have to be a ‘middle of april’ present!

    • Hurrah! Happy Middle of April!

    • I too celebrate the middle of April! its a much overlooked tradition! :oD

      • Will there be cake?

      • I’ll have that instead of an Easter Egg, actually just one Easter Egg and Portal 2.

      • What about two easter eggs and Potal 1? Tricky….

      • I sort of celebrate the middle of April as it’s my birthday.

  6. the release date is a lie

    • they missed such s good opertunity to use this

  7. haha thats a good press release i have read in a while!

  8. Is this going to be the new Duke Nukem? Oh, wait… No, that was released…
Erm… The new GT5? That’s not been released yet!

I do like that they’re now just poking fun at how they constantly delay stuff, I imagine it helps to lessen the pain the vitriolic fanboys feel. Does feel like they could just be avoiding the absolutely smashed Jan-Mar release window, something that EA themselves have a big thing to do with, and it’ll give Valve more time for polish, which they always enjoy having.

  9. Replayed the original Portal recently (don’t often get the urge to replay games but this fitted into my schedule very well given it’s short-ish length) and it really is a class game. Played it with the developers commentary on (it’s not intrusive as you make the choice to play the sound bytes as and when you want within the levels)and although the speakers are a little dry I found it interesting and think this sort of approach could have a future in games hopefully.
Valve really are a class apart.

  10. Excellent job by their PR department, never before have I enjoyed the announcement of a delay so much! It almost makes me glad they’ve delayed it so they had the chance to issue that Press Release!

Also Jan/Feb is a busy gaming spell and I actually think April is the perfect time to release this so I can give it my full attention!
