Looks like the calls for Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion to play the Uncharted series’ dashing hero Nathan Drake have fallen on deaf ears, as Mark Wahlberg (yes, that’s Max Payne) has confirmed in an interview with MTV News that he will be playing the role of Drake in the upcoming movie based on the games.
Wahlberg, who also appeared in The Other Guys and The Fighter, will play the role in a script written and directed by David O. Russell. “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with,” says Wahlberg in the interview. “The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
That “insane idea” doesn’t appear to be based on either of the games, however, with the actor also confirming that both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will also be appearing in the film adaptation, as Drake’s uncle and dad, respectively, neither of which have appeared thus far in the games.

Hmm, a surprising choice. I don’t have anything against Wahlberg, but I would’ve prefered Nathan Fillion as Drake. But then again I don’t have high expectations of the Uncharted movie anyway. There are only few movie adaptations of games which are worth watching. I’m more looking forward to the movie tie-in game “Uncharted: The Movie – The Game” (aka Uncharted 3) :)

I can see the point of making the plot unique, the biggest market for this will be people who have played both the games so there is no point retelling those stories.
Mark Wahlberg is not a bad choice in my opinion, I think the story and the way it is told are bigger concerns for me

I quite like Mark Wahlberg but only because I’ve seen him play a very similar role in most films. I’m not sure he has the skill to play Nate properly. Fillon, Jackman, would’ve been fine. Hmm… *goes to ponder some more*

I actually don’t understand why everyone wants Nathan Fillion to play Nathan Drake. I think Wahlberg looks more similar to Drake and I think he’s very capable of pulling this one off. Just look at his hair. He’s freaking perfect! Fillion doesn’t look tough/hot enough. If they would ever make a Scary Movie like spoof of Uncharted he would be my first choice but on the serious side, no chance.
