Looks like the calls for Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion to play the Uncharted series’ dashing hero Nathan Drake have fallen on deaf ears, as Mark Wahlberg (yes, that’s Max Payne) has confirmed in an interview with MTV News that he will be playing the role of Drake in the upcoming movie based on the games.
Wahlberg, who also appeared in The Other Guys and The Fighter, will play the role in a script written and directed by David O. Russell. “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with,” says Wahlberg in the interview. “The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.”
That “insane idea” doesn’t appear to be based on either of the games, however, with the actor also confirming that both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci will also be appearing in the film adaptation, as Drake’s uncle and dad, respectively, neither of which have appeared thus far in the games.
The interview’s below.

Epic FAIL. I do like him, but he is not suited to the role!

I got a bad feeling about this one

Shit. Shit. Shit.
I like Wahlberg, he’s good in many things and I like all of his movies that I’ve seen (except the atrocity that is Max Payne). Prince of Persia was actually GOOD.
Fillion, however, is the absolute embodiment of Drake. Spot on in every way – he even looks like him, for fuck’s sake.

So the one game to movie port that actually had scope to be successful is now gonna be a flop like the rest of them, congratulations. Dicks!

I quite like some of Wahlberg’s work, he can certainly act when he wants to but that’s hardly going to be a major requirement for a video game movie. The movie is going to blow balls no matter what though lets face it.

Um bit dull? The Happening IS the worst film I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen Epic Movie) so anything with Wahlberg leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
And boy I dont want them to ruin this franchise. A bad film and all the games thereafter with be left with the lingering thoughts of a Wahlberg nightmare…
Please dont screw this up.

I think a lot of people are overreacting here. Mark Wahlberg is a capable actor. Some of his movies might not be the best of all time but don’t overlook the fact that bad writing/directing can ruin a movie too and the actor can’t always save a movie alone. He looks much more similar to Drake than Fillion. He can pull off serious roles and still be funny. I think he is a good choice and if the writing/directing/budget is right this could turn out like a pretty good game to movie conversion.

this made me sad, fillion would have been awesome. By the looks of things, this is going to be way to much hollywood action and not a particulary good film.

Whilst I’m not denying Mark Wahlberg has some great performances in his CV, to my mind he does not even have one good or passable performance as a character similar to Drake.
And why De Niro and Pesci? Nate’s Italian now? Plus, there shouldn’t be any need for these character’s unless, gasp, DON’T YOU FUCKING DARE CUT SULLY OUT YOU S.O.B.s!!!
Ok, rant over.
I think this is a bad idea. (You may have guessed, huh?)
Fillion also would have been a bad idea. Great for the character, but you need a big MOVIE star, not from TV.
Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schrieber, Hugh Jackman, Gerard Butler, or Jake Gyllenhall would have had the star power and be able to produce a good Drake.
However, more than the actor, the script is now ringing MAJOR alarm bells…
Extra, superflous characters, when you have two movies worth of Sullys, Rajas, Elenas, Romans, Chloes, Schafers, Flynns, etc? Why?

He looks far too old to play Nathan Drake… they should totally just CGI the whole film :| I <3 Drake lol
