Move Lightsaber Game Will Be Better Than Kinect’s – Sony

What Move lightsaber game? we hear you clamour. Considering there hasn’t been one confirmed, we don’t know either. That hasn’t stopped Anton Mikhailov, a member of Sony’s R&D division, weighing in on Microsoft’s attempt at recreating a home-made Jedi.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Mikhailov states:

“There’s no way Kinect can do a good lightsaber game […] I’m not in the product planning division so unfortunately I can’t tell you much more about that. But, technologically, it’s 100 per cent feasible.

“We can overlay objects over the controller in AR. You’ve seen that in Start the Party, and swords are a really popular one. The fidelity is certainly there to do all sorts of Star Wars kid-style action. You can very well do the lightsaber.”

It’s important to stress that this is not confirmation that there is a Move compatible Star Wars game in development. Of course, if there isn’t one, someone in Sony and/or LucasArts needs to be fed to a sarlaac pit.

  1. Yeah, that top one was the one Shopto had posted on their facebook page. Curiouser & curiouser…

    • Not sure what happened there, this was supposed to be a reply to Seaninio!! :(

  2. Totally agree. Move is perfect for a lightsaber game. Come on Sony, get the deal done! Who knows, if it’s good, it could be Move’s “killer app”… I think Move needs a really good game.

  3. The move looks pretty interesting, but kinect is just MEH! i can’t see my self playing it.

  4. surely the kinnect would be way better for a light sabre game. You could use an actual lightsabre if you wanted, while move you couldn’t.

    • Do you know many people with an ‘actual’ lightsabre then?? :o
I personally don’t know any Jedi (or Sith for that matter)…

    • You have to build it first. And your midichlorian level has to be off the scale in the first place. Then you have to make the Kessel run in 12 parsecs. Hang on, one of them isn’t right.

    • Actually there is a game like that out on the PS2 with Eyetoy (albeit in a medieval setting with a “green”-sword which is tracked by the camera).

  5. just had a thought, two lightsabers. :o
and have the option to wield them blade down, like starkiller.
and a special add on that lets you slip two move controllers together for a double bladed lightsaber, a la darth maul.

  6. ak move lightsabers would be good for about 5 mins then i would get bored with it got the move on launch day and have played it a handfull of times the titles are lacking at the mo but i just dont do it for me

  7. Really cool! I’ll buy the game for sure.

  8. Of course any lightsaber game where you’re actually holding something is going to be the better option, but considering the quality of any such game would be dependent on the abilities of the devs at Lucasarts, you can pretty much write it off already. Star Wars games aren’t really worth anyone’s time anymore… unless they involve Lego of course.

  9. It would be great if they made a lightsaber game for Move, it’s really perfect for it. The glowing ball at the top could change colour to whatever your on-screen character’s lightsaber is.

  10. Yes a game using move would be better as you are holding something but what will really make any sword fighting game better on move is that you have the navigation controller – that’s the real key to it. With move there won’t be any crappy on rails feel like that kinect preview at e3
