With news of Kinect selling 2.5 million units in 25 days still ringing in our ears, Sony has hit back with some figures of its own.
Since launch, sales of Move controllers have surpassed 4.1 million units.  This excludes stand-alone sales of the PS Eye and Navigation Controller.  Pretty impressive stuff and actually more than I was expecting, especially with the rather low-key marketing push.
Now let’s have some more games for both peripherals!

Fantastic news for people hoping for much needed 3rd party support, just need to work out how many people’s homes Move is in. For eg. I’ve got 3 Move sticks & will have 4 by Christmas
Juelz345
Agreed. The figure does sound impressive but i’d like to know how many households that covers. Me and 2 of my friends have 2 each. Either way, I’m glad to see that both Move and Kinect are selling well. Hopefully that translates into quality games for both.

Yeah, that its a social system and flying solo on motion controlled games is a bit odd tbh, so presumably most people have bought more than one, meaning it may be in around 2m homes, selling half as well as Kinect (as its been on sale for double the time).
Who knows though, they’re good figures and it bodes well for the future
ratkiller75
The amount of households does matter and if less households have move than kinect then Sony aren’t doing well in that respect but you still have to consider the bigger picture. Move has effectively outsold kinect with so many sales. And I reckon 1 or 2 per household is probably about the average so Move and Kinect are on similar ground.

“This excludes stand-alone sales of the PS Eye and Navigation Controller.”
so even with the probability that theres 2 controlers per house hold, theres some data missing from sonys figures.

I actually like that Sony are quietly plugging away in the background achieving sales like this, not to mention the impressive sales of GT5. I am sure we will see a bigger marketing push from Sony towards the holidays, however we cant ignore the fact that Sony are doing a lot of viral marketing via Facebook and other social media sites, that might be having more success then a big advert in the middle of X Factor!

Sony do both pretty well, I think I’ve seen more Move ads than Kinect as its intergrated into the whole PS3 ad campaign which pushes family gaming through singstar, blu-ray movies as well as singstar dance for the motion controller, saw the GT5 ad last night as well, although that largely sells itself so an ad campaign for that may not be needed

The only time I see a Move advert is on E4 during Friends..
Everything else is all Kinect.. =P

I watch too much Friends….

Wow awesome Sony! Great sales without much advertising

I think Sony have just been quietly getting on with it. It definitely feels like Move is doing quite well for itself, and if you head on to online retailers, there’s quite a few places that don’t have them in stock at the moment. Amazon doesn’t have either the bundle /or/ the stand alone controller in.
You could argue it’s shrewd marketing by keeping stocks low to build hype and desire, but at the same time, it’s not so low that it’s actually constricting sales, I don’t think.
Good for both Sony and MS. They’re getting the sales in, and you can consider both launches a big success.

Just imagine how well they’ll do when some good games are released for both systems

Exactly. That’s 4.1m sold off the back of the promise of good games next year. I’m one of them, and the only title so far has been Sports Champions, but in the next few months, you’ll have the LBP2 side game, Killzone 3, maybe SOCOM 4… There’s a good few titles promised to us that are looking good.
I’ve not really kept track of Kinect, but the feeling I get is that there’s not much announced yet, which makes 2.5m even more impressive…
Person678
I’d love to see sales figures the month when Sorcery is released.
Galiophaurus
So far I’m only fond of Sports Champions and The Fight (which I both have), there are also noteworthy PSN games like flightcontrol and tumble.
Waiting for socom 4 and killzon3 … but I’m not very impressed on the line-up thus far …
ratkiller75
I have to say that neither peripheral has any amazing games on them so when anything particularly good comes out these sales will soar and the potential of Move and Kinect will be truly realised rather than more games like we’ve seen on the Wii since its release.
Shakugan
Resistance 3 MIGHT support Move. :]

Some nice numbers there, it’s nice to see that even though Kinect has the most aggressive marketing campeign since, well last xmas’s rash of 360 ads every 3 seconds, move is still giving it a run for its money. Just goes to show, marketing or not a good product will out.
Awayze
I see more Kinect adverts. I will be buying three more Moves and 2 navigation controllers soon. A set for each PS3.
Porcupine_I
i think the Move is a keeper, while a lot of Kinect Units may find themselves as trade-ins not too long after the holidays.

Awesome News!
Move is brilliant – Love it, must get into it more but I am swamped with games at the moment :-)
Aquastyle
Reading the Kinect sales-article earlier, I was convinced it had gotten the upper edge on Move saleswise. I guess I was wrong. That’s some hugely impressing numbers, I had no idea it sold that well. Congrats Sony!
Dan Lee
It’s pretty balanced; Move has been out for 2 months in NA and EU, and 1 month in Japan and has sold 4.1 million, whilst Kinect has been out for half as long and has sold 2.5 million.
Aquastyle
I guess it is, yes. I expected Kinect to outsell Move quite the bit honestly, seeing as it’s been marketed way better…
ratkiller75
The thing is that the average is probably 1 or 2 moves per household whereas you only need one kinect so if you consider that two times as many moves will be sold then Kinect is doing better because it is more innovative.
TSBonyman
Those are great figures! I’ll be interesting to hear how the figures break down across bundles vs discreet units for both Kinect and Move.
