TSA’s Top 100 of 2011 – #35 Saints Row 3

Not that we needed THQ to confirm the inevitable, but it was nice of them to do so anyway on an earnings call back in February of this year, letting us know that Saints Row would be treated to another pimped out outing in 2011. Since then, however, we’ve heard (and seen) very little of the title.

In fact, if things had turned out a little different, we could have got our first glimpse of Saints Row 3 during this year’s E3 if it wasn’t for a last minute decision by Volition to pull the title from the expo, quoting a requirement for the developer to “rebuild tech” before its big reveal. Never fear, as Vice President of THQ Danny Bilson has since confirmed that the game’s all set for an unveiling at the VGAs on the 11th of this month.

Saints Row has always been a big, brash, often insane variation of a certain other crime-glorifying open-world title. THQ’s series has its own dedicated following, however, with certain sectors of the gaming consensus preferring Saints Row 2 over Rockstar’s bigger-budgeted media-hogging juggernaut.

Considering the media black-out about the title, we obviously know very little of such things as plot etc. It has been rumoured that the third chapter will head in a new direction, the Corporate Warfare DLC pack for Saint’s Row 2 suggesting a move away from the location of the first two games, Stilwater, as The Boss hunts for Dexter Jackson, former lieutenant of the Saints gang who has since fled the city. We guess we’ll find out a lot more at the VGAs on the 11th.

Sporting low 80 scores on Metacritic, Saints Row 2 is worthy of its legion of over-the-top action and high-jinks fans. Saints Row 3 is primed as a guilty pleasure of 2011, a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously but will undoubtedly deliver a crime-laced yarn full of colourful characters and crazy plot-turns.

Saints Row 3 will be out on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in Q3/Q4 2011.

  1. I’m a little tired of this type of Sandbox and well SR2 was defo a fun game so I hope that Volition can expand on the last game than ever before. (yes, that includes well detailed humans and animation)

The ultimate gaming experience still hasn’t appeared must be number one or near? (baha!)

  2. I have never played this series

  3. Anyone who has never played SR because they ‘like GTA too much’ is missing out on a treat, the world may not be as expansive or as realistically rendered as GTAIV is but the mechanics of the game are much better.

I’m glad they are moving away from Stillwater for the next game though, the second game wasn’t really very good compared to the first, location wise. Not to mention 3rd Street was gone so the 3rd Street Saints were now the ‘other side of town’ saints! Not as catch IMHO

lol Sainths row sucked and that coming from a person who was bored stiff from GTA IV. Don’t compare Saints row and the GTA games on the ps2. the gta games are 100% better…even GTA IV is more fun then the SR series

  5. Loved Saints Row 2… It is exactly like GTA but without the stick up it’s arse, self-indulgent, fun sapping that accompanies Rockstar’s ‘finest’

Sure the world was a bit buggy, but I don’t play the campaigns I just tit around for a few months once I get stuck on a mission and having fun in Stillwater was a million times better than having fun in Liberty City.

Looking forward to 3 so much
