Red Dead Redemption Wins VGA ‘Game Of The Year’

So the dust has settled, the votes have been counted, and Rockstar’s ‘Read Dead Redemption’ has walked away with the ‘Game of the Year’ award. We think that RDR is a deserving winner; not only is the standalone game a wonderfully designed adventure, but it has also received fantastic post release support by way of premium DLC such as ‘Undead Nightmare’.

  1. Love this game. I haven’t bought the Undead Nightmare pack yet. Maybe for the holidays.

    • And thanks for staying up and posting all this stuff for us, TSA.

    • Need to get RDR, never got round to it. The winners look pretty balanced and fair to be honest.

  2. Agreed with everything except best shooter: either Medal of Honor or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 should of won it imo.

    • i agree I think best mp or best shooter should of gone to Battlefield: BC2

    • battlefield hands down

    • Not played Medal of Honor or BLOPS but B:BC2 is by far the best shooter i’ve played this year.

  3. Good thing the VGAs are definitely not a joke.

  4. This is the reason gaming needs an Academy similar to film. How can RDR win GOTY and not Best Action-Adventure Game??? Fan voting is pants.

    • mate the games a master piece a lot of work goes into a game like that well deserved imo.

      • I’m not bashing RDR by any means it’s a fantastic game but I’m bashing the voters in that it didn’t win it’s action-adventure category. That’s like an comiedic movie winning Best Picture but not Best Comedy. It’s inconsistent in my opinion.

  5. It really was/is a hugely impressive title and I’m particularly happy to see the Score getting the attention it deserves. Too often the sound in games goes unnoticed and I know, Raen did a lunchtime discussion about it but if any title deserves a mention, it’s this.
Much appreciated, Dan and thankyou for posting this.

  6. I only got RDR last week, but it really is deserving of GOTY, an excellent game!

    • Agree, I bought it on release but only dabbled in the MP side of things. Recently started the campaign and I am loving it :)

Bought the Undead DLC too, but gonna finish the campaign 1st I reckon :D

  7. Don’t really agree with many of these awards. Not played rdr yet but can accept it’s goty based on public feedback, but when the most anticipated games of 2011 isn’t uc3 how serious do I take them?

    • Considering UC3 was announced a couple of days ago, I’d say it’s fair. There’s a lot of games I’d like to see but I’m more than prepared to wait.

  8. A very deserving winner, it is an amazing game. I’ve nearly finished it now and am eagerly awaiting playing Undead Nightmare! I haven’t heard Jose Gonzales’ song though, is it a credits jobbie? I would say Blops and Halo should swap awards though, with best multiplayer going to Blops and best shooter going to Halo.

  9. Im not too happy with these results, i must admit RDR well deserves winning and its great to see its soundtrack getting an award. However, it annoys me that already AC:B, black ops and hot pursuit have one an award for being out just a month now, u have got to give the game time.

    • but if they are genuinely the best games in their class why should time be a factor??

      • lets look at it, best shooter has to be BFBC2, howver black ops gets it, even after poor customer reviews and the problems atm and its only been out a month and a few days. RDR wins best game but not the best game in its catergory, AC: B takes the prize which i dont understand. Best racing game: goes to Hot pursuit which has been out less than a month and its more of an acrade than racing. Games need time to become great in my opnion

      • Bad Company 2 was good but had it’s problems. The single player wasn’t as intense and Medal of Honor and not nearly as exciting as Black Ops. Multiplayer is what let MoH down for me but Black Ops is superb. For me, either one of these two could have been winners.

Also I don’t think it really matters how long the game has been out, obviously if the game has only been out a week, especially if it has multiplayer, then I could see your point. However Black Ops has been out for long enough to allow me to experience and judge against it’s rivals, I imagine people can say the same for Hot Pursuit.

  10. And the award for Best Call of Duty Game goes to…
