InSANE Set For Trilogy

The first game is still years away and already publisher THQ are talking trilogies for Guillermo del Toro’s new distorted horror tale, InSANE. (Note the type-face, another bloody “in” game we’re going to constantly cock up when typing for the next three years.)

Announcing a “transmedia” endeavour, THQ will work closely with the acclaimed director on three games as well as other “surrounding” projects. Guillermo del Toro will act as the games’ external creative director with THQ Executive Vice President Danny Bilson, THQ Director of Fiction Development Paul DeMeo and THQ studio Volition on the upcoming trilogy. Bilson stated:

“THQ is committed to creating great games by identifying the world’s most talented artists and providing them with the creative support to design innovative game play experiences.

“Guillermo is not only an incredibly gifted writer and film director, but also an avid gamer, and we are excited to bring his talents to our medium. We are confident his unique point of view will create visually stunning adventures, filled with rich and rewarding game play.”

del Toro added:

“With this new series of videogames, I want to take players to a place they have never seen before, where every single action makes them question their own senses of morality and reality.

“THQ and Volition, Inc. are equally excited to make this vision of a completely new game universe into a reality.”

THQ will own the intellectual property rights to the InSANE trilogy, while del Toro will retain the rights to any filmed entertainment products.

  1. Isn’t it a bit too much to be planning this as a trilogy when the first game is set for 2013?

    • The first needs to be really good before planning a trilogy…

      • But for the trilogy to be good, it needs to be planned as a trilogy.

Otherwise the law of averages says you’re likely to end up with so-so sequels that require a lot of retcons.

  2. Let’s just hope that it isn’t a crictical diasster like a previous horror directors game…..

  3. Oh so it is “InSANE”. How annoying.

  4. Vefry interesting, very interesting indeed. Whats it gonna be like – Pans Labyrinth meets Hellboy?

  5. So del Toro’s going to be in charge of the story, character development and art style, etc… being the creative director and THQ will be in charge of the game mechanics. Should be interesting, and to add to that interest the addition of the movies to the whole package. This could go either way!

  6. It’ll be insane if he repeats the mistakes of the Hellboy game.

  7. when i heard about a game called insane, i am not bothering with the capitalisations, i was hoping that old codemasters racing game was being resurrected, but then i saw del toro’s name, and i figured, probably not.

with del toro involved it should be interesting, it remains to be seen what kind of game it will be or if it will be any good, we’ve all seen movie stars and directors get involved with games and ended up with turkeys, let’s hope this ends up as one of the rare great ones.

  8. Of all the games that I know are due to release in 2013 this is the one I’m most excited about. :)

  9. I love a good horror so am keeping an eager eye on this. It’s going to have a lot to live up to though if they keep plugging it from so early on.

  10. If it’s not out till 2013, then how will we play it as the world is ending in 2012? That’s insane yo!
