EA have announced that PS3 users still on the galactic fence on whether or not to pick up Mass Effect 2 next month can avail of a demo of the game on December 22nd. The full title will launch almost exactly a month later on January 21st in Europe.
No mention of what’s on offer in the sneak peek. We’ll ask. We’re good that way.

I wont go into the game play of part one because basically every issue i had with that was resolved in part 2. It play’s very much like a 3rd person shooter (think Gears of war, but not as heavy or Uncharted but not as climby). It has a cover system that works perfectly and each of the weapons feel really good. The RPG elements are very straight forward and the inventory system is a lot simpler (and enjoyable) than most RPGs. The decisions made not only affect the current game, but have lasting affects on the sequels. Depending on the type of character you choose to be, you have different abilities that are all unique and will determine how you play (i.e better with regular weapons or bio abilities). Even though i’ve already played part one on 360, i still thinking about getting this on PS3 to play as a different type of character, which is not something i normally do.

As an owner of both consoles and as someone who has already played ME 1 and 2 I am still looking forward to this game on PS3, there were a number of problems with ME2 (i.e. sound dropping out, mostly on speech, freezing etc, and the simple fact that it came on 2 discs which needed changing over every now and again)
I hope that they have actually spent time and upgraded the game in terms of textures and sound (which were pretty close to perfect before) and that they have ironed out all the glitchy speech drops and not just ported it over without putting any effort into it.
but then, were not really going to get much from a demo…as it’s still only a demo, and this type of game needs at least 2 hours of playtime to fully understand the gameplay/karma mechanics.
if you haven’t played it yet, then you should count down the hours till the demo arrives and give it a go, you just might like it…even love it.
