Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale Coming to PSN/XBL

Know your Shadowdale from your Cormyr? Can you tell a Cult of the Dragon member from a Night Mask? Are you West Coast (Waterdeerp) or an East Coast (Luiren) Faerunian? Did any of what I’ve just said make a jot of sense?

Insanely popular fantasy role-playing setting Forgotten Realms is set to invade both the PSN and Xbox LIVE with the release of  Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale next year. From the press release:

Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale centers on the desperate struggle to defeat the evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim in their attempt to invade and conquer the Dalelands.  Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale is an engaging multi-player experience that introduces a riveting narrative and treacherous new characters.  Players are charged with the task of restoring order to Nentir Vale by unlocking the secrets of the Mines of Tethyamar, defeating the evil within the treacherous Tower of the Void, leading to the final confrontation with Rezlus himself.

The digital only title allows for single and co-op play for up to four players. If Myth Drannor (fabled city of the elves now lying in ruins at the centre of Cormanthor) is a visitable location, I may lose the plot entirely. Published by Atari and developed by Bedlam Games, Dungeons and Dragons Daggerdale is due in spring 2011.

  1. Ooh, this sounds a lot like it could be right up my street. I’ve always liked the idea of d&d but never got into it. One to watch for me for sure.

    • I’m going to reply to myself just to show how crazy i am. Closest i ever got to role playing games was advanced hero quest and blood bowl. Both awesome games but real watered down role playing games.

      • You should try Talisman !

      • Blood Bowl was awesome, though I don’t think I would ever class it as an RPG, AHQ was great as a primer to role playing as well.

Went into my local GW the other day for a nostalgia trip. Came out a few quid lighter.

  2. So is this like ‘roll a dodecahedron die’ Dungeons and Dragons or is it ‘Hank, Eric, Diana, Presto, Sheila, Bobby and the Dungeon Master’ Dungeons and Dragons ?

    • hope its the latter =D

    • Oh and Uni the unicorn…….*Beehhh*

      • I can do a very good impression of Uni.

  3. Hmm, never played it before but always wanted to try it.

    • Completing the geek trifecta (games, comics AND role-playing) I was big into AD&D when I was younger. Forgotten Realms was easily my favourite world to game in. If you’re genuinely looking into what it’s like to role-play, I highly recommend the podcasts Penny Arcade did with Wizards of the Coast at the last PAX. This should get you started.

It even has Wil Wheaton in it.

  4. Be interested to see how this compares to Dragon Age. Been a while since theres been a decent D&D game on consoles, used to enjoy Dark Alliance back in the day. Wonder if you’ll get to take on Venger?

    • You do know that Dungeons and Dragons the RPG and Dungeons and Dragons the cartoon are two vastly different things, right?
      :)

      • Like Peanut Butter and Jam, I can see no valid reason why the two could not be combined.

  5. Ooo, lovely stuff. If they go with a lighter, less anally retentive RPG romp then count me in. Okay, there’s a bit more to it than Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance but, by god, that was fun! I’d love some single player and co-op lovin’.

  6. ah, shame it’s only 2 player – I’d love to find a PS3 game to fill the shoes of Champions of Norrath on the PS2

    • “The digital only title allows for single and co-op play for up to four players.”

      Reading is fun!
      :P

  7. A download is cool but being a full retail release would bask it in majestic glory its one of my favourite genres but alas its tragically rare on consoles which is sad….

  8. They look nothing like the Dungeons I frequent.

  9. Dungeons and Dragons… Oh, it’s from that brilliant film with Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans?
