EA Partners and Valve have come together today to announce that their upcoming First Person Puzzler, Portal 2, will launch on April 21st for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac. Earlier this month Portal 2 took the award of 2011’s most anticipated title at the Spike VGA’s, beating off heavy contenders Batman, Bioshock, and Gears of War.
The sequel to the charming cult-classic comes as a more rounded package, with a bounty of complex puzzles and gameplay mechanics. Portal 2 will also include a co-operative campaign with seperate story, promising to be one of the innovative experiences in modern gaming.
“Portal 2 is Valve’s most innovative title in the company’s history and will be launched with a first-class launch campaign this April,” said Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve. “We’re excited to be working with Electronic Arts to deliver this title as we expand our platform strategy to include the Mac and PlayStation 3 platforms.”
During Sony’s E3 conference this year, Valve director Gabe Newell made a surprise appearance to announce the game, stating that the PlayStation 3 version would be superior to the rest. Hopefully we will find out exactly what he meant, in the coming months prior to Portal 2’s release.

I really enjoyed the first Portal and can’t wait for Portal 2! I am curious to see why the PS3 will be the best version though……

When he said that the PS3 version would be the best version on any console, he meant that Steamworks can be fully integrated within the game. Including Steam Cloud and automatic updates etc. Something which Microsoft doesn’t allow on the Xbox 360. I’ll be buying the game on Steam, but it’s good to hear about what they can do with the PS3.

I’m looking forward to playing this game as I’ve enjoyed the portal type puzzles I’ve played in games like Darksiders n also it’s my birthday near then so I can treat myself :) However with the massive collection of games surrounding that month I think I’ll just hope I’m still on LoveFilm.
Also, how come the page can’t support that many comments now?

When they announced the delay back in November they said it would be out week commencing 18 April, as reported on this very site!

Granted, this confirmes the specific day of the week, but still… it’s not really news ;)

Didn’t play the first one, looks like I’ve got some catching up to do before I have a go at the second one.

My first thought for the “Better PS3 version” (Or whatever he said) was multiplayer. but Portal wouldn’t realy work in multiplayer. Would it?
