Game of the Year 2010: Multi Platform

Games that everyone can enjoy. Surely those are the best kind? This category is uniquely able to celebrate the achievements made by developers who aren’t tied in to exclusive deals with any one platform.

The category includes any disc based release which was available for two or more of the biggest platforms (home consoles and PC/Mac). We didn’t count any of the mobile-phone spin-offs or handheld derivatives which may or may not share features. These are big hitters.

The exclusives often seem to get the most attention in our industry. Perhaps that’s because they are the easiest to cling to when the fanboys are making pointless claims that their choice of console is somehow “better” than another. Multiplatform titles skirt that issue by making themselves available to all (or many, at least). Now, if only we could stop paying so much attention to those comparison articles!

So, in celebration of all things inclusive, we present our Multiplatform Game of the Year 2010: Mass Effect 2 (PC and Xbox 360)

  1. I wasn’t really that impressed with the demo. Don’t get me wrong I can see that it’s a great game if that’s the sort of thing that you enjoy but I just found it too run here, open door, talk, shoot and then repeat. I also found the shooting quite boring as I was expecting quick action paced bits.

  2. pretty nice im actually looking forward to mass effect 2 for ps3

  3. I completely agree. I didn’t enjoy either of them.

  4. no offence but to me the game oh the year should go to heavy rain and the game i’snt even in the polls what the hell

    • Look in the PS3 exclusive GOTY story – you’ll be happy then! ;o)

  5. no offence but to me the game oh the year should go to heavy rain and the game i’snt even in the polls wtf

    • Heavy Rain hasn’t featured yet as the PS3 exclusive, and overall GoTY catorgories have yet to be published. Stay tuned, it may be in there.

  6. Would anyone like a jelly baby?

  7. At least COD:BO didn’t come first :P
Ive never played Mass effect but I recall a demo on the PSN which I might have to try out.

I havent really played any of those games on that list, infact this year ive only bought God of War 3 and Gran Turismo 5, and they’re both exclusives :S Although I did spend some time getting trophies for the insanely addictive Fallout 3, eventually getting the platinum trophy :D

Therefore my multi-platform game of the year goes to Fallout 3 :P Hurrah!!!

  8. Well that was an interesting read! Personally I don’t do PC gaming & I use this site for PS3 stuff – have very little interest in the 360/Wii/PC news. I always associate this as a PS3/360 site, so was a little surprised to see ME2 win! Probably because I haven’t noticed PC stuff on here before! Right back off to play with my Atari Jaguar :oD
