Dead Nation Results

Shambling our way out of a a fantastic year for competitions and community gaming on TSA, the last competition we ran in 2010 was for Housemarque’s brilliant twin stick shooter, Dead Nation.

For a week and a half we’ve fended off the hordes of Santa Z-words from TSA towers, aiming to, not just get the highest individual and co-op scores possible, but also to massacre our way to beat the in-game Trophy for killing 53,596 of the things. If we managed to do that, then we’d unlock the prize for the top scorer(s) in the form of The Walking Dead, Book 1.

Before we get to the top results, some TSA points go to some outstanding achievements in the field.

  • First and foremost Beelzie14, who really got into the spirit of things and slaughtered more zombies than anyone else! He also maintaining an average of 662 kills per entry, with a competition high of 667 achieved twice.
  • From the highest to the lowest, Icuyesido went all out for his frankly bizarre speed runs attempts, securing a 3:22! He’s even in action on Youtube.
  • Spooferbarnabas for the highest multiplier, at 1100x.
  • Boomshanks & Qurx and Beelzie14 for collecting the most loot in a single round at 94%.
  • Matty & Spoof and Boomshanks & Qurx for getting the best bonus percentage at 59%.

Your TSA points are in the mail. Also on the way are the T-shirts that were provided to us by the lovely chaps at Sony and Housemarque. Drawn at random from all the entrants, the three winners are Beelzie14, TSBonyman and Matty. Congratulations to the three of them.

We move on to the overall winner, and boy did it get close at the top. In the last 48 hours the score changed hands several times, and we raced past 20 million! In third place, DrNate86 showed up with his brother for a solitary effort with 19,343,394, but it wasn’t good enough. Spooferbarnabas was already ahead on 22,595,358, with an excellent run on Grim difficulty, but Boomshanks & Qurx were able to step it up a gear, playing on Morbid to nail 23,121,264.

Excellent work from the pair of them, and it was a pleasure to receive their entries, each time improving leaps and bounds over their last. So the only thing to still be addressed is whether or not we hit our target of 53,596 kills!

With such an ambitious target, it was all looking a bit dismal two days before closure, with only around 20,000 bodies accounted for, but the pace really picked up over the last 48 hours, as I badgered and harried people out of their New Year stupors to give it a few more tries, and my spreadsheet of results started to get nearly unreadable. At the close, our final total was…. 44,691. Not good enough.

I knew for a fact that several unnamed individuals had entries which hadn’t been sent in. Perhaps they were overrun by the remaining 8,905 zombies? Maybe they were simply too chicken to venture outside in the first place? Who knows, but it left me to scout around and I managed to unveil another 12 entries. These added 7,495 to the total, and left us on 52,186. Agonisingly close to our total!

Since we got so close, and the excellent efforts put in by those at the top of the pile, it’s only fair that we reward Boomshanks & Qurx with The Walking Dead regardless. They’re supposedly good friends, so sharing this book will be a little test of this. As a consolation prize to Spooferbarnabas, we saved him a Dead Nation T-shirt.

So it just leaves me to say congratulations to the winners, commiserations to the dead, un-dead and re-dead, and we’ll see you at the next Apocalypse.

Post-Apocalypse, TSA remains up and running, so keep checking in on the Community, Competitions and Meets sections of the site, as well as following @thesixthaxis and @TSACom on twitter for more alerts on the status of the undead in your area.

  1. So tef, where’s my 1000 TSA points and £50 Amazon gift card you bribed me with eh… EH?!

    • As I said, they’re in the post…

      • Oh god really, the post is really bad right now, it’s going to take weeks for it to come through. *sigh* :P

      • Yes… It might even get lost in the post… Dun Dun DUUUUUUUHHHH!!!

  2. Gah so close to the t-shirt! That’s all I ever wanted *sobs*.

  3. Some more random stats for you:
    – I actually had the best score with 24,350,277 points.
    – Nobody managed to submit a run with 100% loot or the No Damage bonus.
    – The average score was 8,222,812, but for Grim entries that rose to 11,799,242.
    – We had 6 people with entries in the top 10.
    – The average number of kills was 644 per entry.
    – The average time was 2:31 under the target.
    – The average multiplier was just 514, with just 5 going past the 1000 mark.
    – The average loot was 84%.
    – The average bonus multiplier was 51%, with just 9 getting past 60%, and most being in the 55-59% range.
    – More than half the entries were on Normal difficulty, outnumbering Grim entries 3:2. Just a single Normal entry made it into the top 10. It was 10th, and came courtesy of our winner Boomshanks & Qurx.

    • I’m not really sure why you call them random…
but it is nice you include these extra stats!

weird though, that no one managed to get 100% loot…
I know Boomshanks and i couldn’t help ourselves but to blow up at least a few cars… That is why I didn’t expect we’d be at the top with loot collection together with Beelzie14 :/

it sure was a fun thought!

      • Erm… I’m not sure either, really! I was figuring them out as I went along, basically.

I managed to get 100% loot. I also managed to do it without getting hit. Then I managed to do both in the same round. ;)
Then again, my results don’t really count for this comp.

    • arrggghhhh bbbbraaaainnnnzzzzz …. hurt after reading those stats!!!

Well done to the guys that took part and those that one and TSA for yet another great compo!

  4. Awesome! I’m delighted to be one of the lucky ones to win a T-shirt. Is a N.Ireland address suitable for postage? Else i’ll have to donate it for a good cause… :s

    • Yes that’s fine. Heck, Cb could even drop it round once he’s got past the Zombie Fever. Just watch out, cos he might be a little… Bite-ier than usual… ;)

      • Great, i’ll keep my finger on R2 just in case.. ;)

  5. Ahhh, you saved me a shirt :’) I love you guys! That was one of my favourite competitions as it took some insane determination, is a great game, and the music for the game is amazing :D

Big congrats to Boomshanks and Qurx, i saw you had beaten my time and was kicking myself at it only being 500,000 difference (stupid fat policemen!!!!)

Also, thanks to teffers for his help and the organisation of it all (plus he got a monster score which was pretty insane).

Anyhoo, maybe some of you lot would like to do some co-op?(especially when voice chat gets patched) :)

  6. well done people, just never had enough time over those funny 2 xmas weeks to have a real go.

  7. ha ha sounds really good fun, wish i bought this over beat sketchers now :/ congrats to the winners and the t’shirt grabbers

  8. Well done to all the entrants and good to see so many regulars in the top places.
