LOVEFiLM Answer Your Questions

Ever wonder who reads the comments you guys grace our meagre articles with? Curious about who’s checking your personal vignettes on gaming; insights that invariably breathe life into what is usually our incessantly stuffy and sullen warbling?

We could name-check a few publishers and renowned industry mavens but let’s just say: lots of people. Lots and lots of interesting folk who (sometimes silently) check out the mood of TheSixthAxis’ growing community in an effort to figure out just what the hell your average (and undoubtedly awesome) gamer is looking for.

One such person is Rob from LOVEFiLM. Checking out feedback of LOVEFiLM’s recent launch on the PS3, Rob dropped us a line mentioning that many of the queries you guys asked in the comment sections about the welcomed expansion of their streaming service have now been answered over at LOVEFiLM’s official site.

Well done, guys. People power.

  1. “Can I use the LOVEFiLM PS3™ service from outside the UK?

Due to the separate rights required to stream films in different territories, the PS3™ service is only available to LOVEFiLM.com subscribers in the UK.”

*sigh* Sometimes I hate living in a small country.

  2. Rob, if you’re reading this could you please, please change the control scheme so that it’s consistent with every other video playback feature on the PS3. For example pause should be the same as pause in everything else (start button), it certainly should not be X ;)
Sorry if that sounds a little “ranty” but it’d be really nice if the controls on the PS3 remote did what they said they did with the LoveFilm app rather than a random function :)

P.S. Are you hiring developers? ;)

  3. Why are the film packages based on hours not per film? Say if you’re on the starter package and wanted to watch a film that’s longer than 2 hours (like LOTR say) then you’d have to wait another month to finish watching it! Seems like a stupid system.

  4. This seems like a perfect opportunity to get my issues across to lovefilm, it’s just that I don’t have any. Service is obsolutely perfect for me. I’m on the most expensive 3 discs unlimited package. It amazing how much money I’ve saved over the years on boxsets and games. I used to limit myself to 1 game a month. Now I get a few, along with many blu-rays all for under £20!

  5. god wish i could use this service, im living in ireland, its only across the pond. Hey rob if ur reading these comments is there any chance of even just getting the streaming service of your films, that would be awesome!

  6. Can you get more anime movies on the service please Rob?

  7. Im subscribing to the £9.99 per month package, but i only wanted it for the ‘watch now’ function on my PS3. I feel there are not enough titles being added to the library each week, and also that there are hardly any blockbuster titles to watch.

The categorisation is also not very well done and im finding comedy in the horror sections etc. Will this be getting fixed?

Will you be adding many more big movies, as im not too fussed about Best of the Best 5 or Bollywood Films, and also will you be increasing the number of movies added each week for watch now?

Finally, will we ever be seeing HD movies added to watch now library?

  8. There really needs to be some newer titles on the PS3 app. Some anime wouldn’t go amiss either. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the naruto shippuden series, only to realise that it was mail only :o(

  9. For me the number 1 problem by far with the PS3 app is that if you use HDMI audio the XMB is locked to PCM 7.1 regardless of what is playing. This means that the 2 ch output of the LOVEFiLM app is forced out of the left and right speaker. Because the receiver is being told it is a PCM 7.1 signal it is impossible to use a Dolby or DTS converter to matrix it into a surround sound format…

Somehow the app needs to output in the correct format so when it’s only a 2 ch signal it can be virtualised into surround sound by the Receiver…
