50 Hours Of Dialogue Captured For L.A. Noire

Thanks to Metal Gear Solid 4, a lot of PS3 gamers are no stranger to long cutscenes and dense dialogue segments, which might be a good thing when it comes time to play L.A. Noire. During an interview with IGN, head of Team Bondi, Brendan McNamara, had this to say.

“We captured over 50 hours worth of dialogue in total, all using MotionScan — it’s equivalent to about two full seasons of a TV show.

Each case has its own twists and turns depending on the choices you make, leading you down different paths on your way to cracking the case, giving you plenty of reasons to jump back in and replay the game.”

While it’s unlikely that all 50 hours will make the cut for the final product or that you’ll even get a chance to see it all in any one play-through, that’s still a hell of a lot of dialogue.

  1. The facial animation looks great even though the character models don’t look quite as ‘next-gen’ as they do in Heavy Rain imo.
Still, it sounds like an absorbing game and i’m looking forward to hearing how it actually plays.

  2. Does 50 hours captured in total mean they are also counting the outtakes?

    • Exactly. Multiple takes, background chatter/conversation as the main dialogue continues. Branching plot so plenty of voice work isn’t heard first play-through. It probably balances out nicely. Great to know they’ve been this thorough, though.

  3. This game sounds more awesome with each news release. I probably won’t be a day-one for this, but it will find its way into my grubby little hands eventually. :)

  4. Ugh. I hate long and boring cutscenes.

  5. Love long cutscenes! It’s what makes any good game good IMO! without cut scenes how can you have a good storyline!

  6. Wow! That’s fantastic news! Everything I read about this just makes me want it more and more.

  7. Honestly, I’d rather have a game with not many cutscenes and not very long ones at that. I’d much rather be playing than watching, it’s why I got a game not a movie.

    • a game without cut scenes would be soulless imo.
