More PSN Avatars On The Way

It has been confirmed over on the US PlayStation Blog that the PSN will be updated with a whole bunch of new avatars based on Tron: Evolution, Hoard, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. These are ‘premium’ avatars, although Sony is saying they “should be quite affordable.”

Hopefully SCEE will be announcing something similar for our side of the pond.

    • You are so wrong! Something I remember discussing with a Sony person. Let’s just say, allowing people to put up whatever they wanted would open a massive Pandora’s box for Sony. Never going to happen. The monitoring alone would be insane.

      It would be cool if you could use your Home avatar face, though.

      • Definitely, I still don’t understand why they haven’t adopted the use of Home avatars, it’s like the 360 version of avatars but more personal. Seems infinitely better than a little picture.

      • was mentioned a long time ago by good old phil harrison(if i remember name correctly)
        that xmb avatars could be your home character. harrisons overall vision of home was much better than what we got, trophy room springs to mind

        have my eyes on niko.b avatar, price will decide on a yes or no

      • It could happen and be plenty profitable too. You’re just not thinking like a businessman.

        Make it a service. You choose the photo you want and are charged about 1 t-shirt for someone to look at it and confirm its decent (and not obviously infringing some copyright).

        Afterwards you get your custom picture. And some poor soul working minimum wage gets to lose all hope in humanity after having seen all the unoriginal pictures, and the perverted ones that got people banned.

  5. Does the 360 allow custom profile pics? I’m sure I have seen people with photos? If so how do they get around the boobs and cock brigade?

  6. Why cant we just use trophies as avatars, the Fallout ones would be awesome.

    Surely SCE should look into this.

  9. Quite affordable – Maybe but the minimum top up is a fiver so not really (if all you want is an avatar)

    • That minimum top up has always annoyed me, I don’t quite understand how the auto-top-up works either.
