A new trailer for Namco’s Ace Combat reboot is in, and it’s looking tense indeed! The main problem I’ve found with air combat games is the lack of speed and urgency. Namco appears to have dealt with this problem as the planes seem to be constantly bucking and shifting due to the air pressure.
The focus on dog-fighting has also helped matters, and it looks like utter chaos as things explode left, right, and centre.

Woah! That indeed looks like a serious reboot. I’m now very interested in the series again, after quite a long down time.

I enjoyed the PS2 Ace Combat games, AH looks great…

I agree in ace combat 6(?) and even hawx I find it quite slow considering you are flying damn fast. Im looking forward to this one.
Joe
but isnt that true to the nature of flying? the further away from the ground you are the slower it feels like you’re going?
i certainly don’t feel exhilarated in a jumbo jet, even considering they cruise at like 800km/h… take off at 280km/h is more exciting
there has to be a physics name for it… some law or something… haha

This! You’re absolutely right about the further away from the ground thing, that none of these kids seem to understand.

@BG123 kids? Hardly – that’s just my amazing anti-aging cream :oD. I’m fully aware of what you’re on about, but in my opinion it makes for a slightly dull game, which is why I prefer Burnout to GT etc.

@Dan Lee
Nah, not aimed specifically at you m8; It just bugs me when people always say there’s no sense of speed at altitude, when it IS like that in RL.
Joe
but yeah, that video looks awesome. very promising indeed.
xbox exclusive? or do we get a break this time and get it on PS3?
BG123
Fast-forward to 1:28 ;)
Joe
Ah missed that!

drool, drool, drool, drool…been waiting a looooooong time for this!

As a huge fan of the PS2 games I can’t say I like the look of this, but hopefully it’s just a small gimmick and the majority of the game is like the others.
And from the trailers so far, the airplanes on offer seem like just the generic F-22’s and Typhoons vs Su-27’s and Su-35’s. That was one of my biggest gripes with AC6, pretty much none of the less famous jets in the series were in it.

When TSA first reported on this I was very pleased to see how they’re shifting the game-style in a new direction. Seat-of-the-pants flying where it’s constantly exhilarating and engaging. The words from the games designers really struck a chord with me. Sure, most of this type of dogfighting doesn’t happen any more but that doesn’t stop someone making a great game with it in there. Bring it on, Namco!

Awesome I loved playing them back on the PS2 ahhh these were great times I missed it and thought H.A.W.X would step up and sadly it didn’t get that feeling I had on the PS2 – brilliant.

Games like this “In theory” should have amazing MP modes, But after playing Hawx, its just not the case, the enemy is far too fast and small so your like a dog chasing its own tale and shooting at coloured squares.
this game seems to improve that slightly, but how much is yet to be seen
